These two could develop into the best tandem of young CB's in the league. Even though Collins play tailed off towards the end of the season. What say you??

I say Jalen Mills is locked in
Jalen Collins will get some competition from White and Robinson along with Dwayne Thomas
That could move Collins to more of a dime/nickel role

I think Collins is a bit underrated and there will be a bunch of "Tre White will be a starter by game ____" comments in here pretty soon.

but I love the Jalens. and Tre White. DBU suckas!

Yep, Collins started off and had me fooled as well as others like he was the best CB not starting, but then quickly fell apart. If he can regain what he started off the season with, well, it will be fun to watch the battle between him and White.

Nickel is a serious position at LSU. Of the three (or of the five), who's the best fit to cover a slot guy? Collins was the nickel last year and did well enough.

Based on skill set, maybe Tre'Davious is better suited to cover slot guys and could be the nickel while also being the second best corner. Or, maybe he'll do like Tyrann's sophomore year and start outside, then move inside when LSU goes to a nickel.

Nice for LSU to have these kinds of options.

I honestly don't get the Collins fell off talk.

I mean, the entire D was subpar after Bama. Not sure how all the rant experts can pick his play out above anyone else's, especially since our pass rush was so weak at that point and the DBs were pretty much hing out to dry down the stretch.

For my part, I think he's a bit more consistent than Mills, but both are far below the elite CB play we've been accustomed to.

Hope White and maybe even another guy like Robinson can push them both or we could be in serious trouble, especially if the young DEs don't step up and they're forced to cover for too long.

Just my honest concerns.

Here's hoping the best for all of them

Collins was the 3rd CB, but didn't cover slot guys. Mills bumped down to the slot and Collins would play outside, much like the Tyrann/ Tharold setup the previous year.

The 2 Jalens starting with White and D Thomas backng them up is what I predict the CB position will look like

This. Collins was always an outside CB.

And I don't get the Collins fell apart talk either. He was better than Simon all year. He's the guy I think will blow up this year. Chief has been grooming him for this season the past 3 years. Stays on him because he knows the potential is there. I think Collins is ready and will be a force next year.

He and Mills will be the 2 starters, with White as NB.

my personal observation of Collins was that doing the begginning of the season he came on like gang busters, playin well and strong covering people to the point where you thought maybe he should have been starting over Mills. Mills was the weaker of the two to me when the season started because he was getting beat, but as the season wore on Mills began to improve more and more, and Collins play started slippin where he was getting beat on routes more and more. You can go back and watch the tape. But that's my obsservation like I said, I could be wrong.

But by them both having a full season underneath them and now knowing what the SEC is all about, I expect them to do well.

I hear ya, and I didn't mean you personally.

Like I said, I thought the whole D was noticeably worse.

But that seems to be the standard talking point by the majority of the rant, and I just honestly can't think of specific examples when Collins looked noticeably worse than Mills.

In fact, I kind of remember the D play dropping off right around the time Collins started getting less snaps.

Again, here's hoping they both step up significantly.

That's true. I had forgotten that Mills would slide down.

Of the three, it still strikes me that White might be the best fit to cover the slot, although it's kind of premature to say that, considering he hasn't even practiced yet.

I don't remember Mills being beaten very often early, in fact I remember being surprised by his play early for being a true freshman.

he got beat on a deep ball TD vs Arky. that's about the worst thing that I can think of that he did. he's got some improvements to make (Mills too), but I thought both played fairly well for freshmen.

Collins had some nice plays vs SC and aTm in particular.

White will play and I think Brazil will find his way on D as well.
