Jason Aldean's new hit (Paying his tributes to those before him)

1994
I was recently informed that this is the #2 country song out there right now
What the holy cornbread frick is going on here? At what point do we quit calling it country and start calling it something else?
This and Merle Haggard's music most certainly do not need to be classified as the same genre.

I might start another thread on it.
50 threads is not enough to discuss this.

It's Nashville pop and its terrible.

I think Nashville Pop is the term you're looking for.

So at what point do we start hearing that as the accepted term for it? Never? Or will we just call waylon's music something else?

Pretty sure to a lot of people they consider that gay country, nashville pop, radio country, or whatever other deservingly degrading term for it...
If you're wondering when the country radio stations will stop calling it country, that would be never.

That's what I'm looking for.
Will country music ever be geared towards adults again?

Sporting an always brand spanking new 1 ton pickup truck with a diesel engine and dually tires, he needs this heavy equipment as a middle management quality control paper pusher in a cubicle farm located in white flight Suburbia. He’d like you to think he owns a farm, but a farmers wage wouldn’t even pay his truck’s interest. His yearly gas bill equals the gross domestic product of Myanmar. He’s shining his chrome rims while his children and wife are ignored. He listens to songs about dirt roads, but’ll be damned if he takes his baby off the blacktop and gets a brush scratch in the paint. He wants you to think he’s country, but Nickelback comes up as “Most Played” on his iTouch. He once hauled a 10 lb bag of potting soil in his truck. Afterwards he immediately sprayed down the beadliner and buffed the paint for 3 hours. He’ll never do that again, but he will haul his equally pristine bass boat, four wheeler, and fifth wheel travel trailer with it, all that he bought to offset his misery. He works 60 hours a week to pay for it all, but is two months from bankruptcy. Deep inside he feels trapped and desperate, but that’s OK because his truck kicks arse. He’s under the impression you can take your material possessions with you to Heaven and tried to write that stipulation into his truck’s two year lease. No, he will not help you move next weekend, he has to wash his truc
This PERFECTLY describes somebody I know. Seriously 100% accurate if you discount the word wife.

I think there is a lot of country music that is geared towards adults and mature listeners... but you find most of it in the 'alternative country' scene, which is a shame because it's more country than what the radio calls country.
Have you listened to Ryan Bingham, Lucero, Ha Ha Tonka, stuff like the Wood Brothers, or even Avett Brothers, Shovels and Rope, Jason Isbell...
I like bands that listened to a lot of old country, but have turned their sound into something more rockish.. You can hear the Townes Van Zandt in Deer Tick.

I'm aware of a bunch of the country that isn't on the radio. There's definitely music out there I like, but I never hear any of that style of music on the radio. Even the "country legends" station sucks about 75% of the time.
Why is none of the "alternative country" (such a shite term) on the radio in SE Louisiana when there is apparently such a high demand for it?

Hands down the worst song I have ever heard.
I heard this awful rumor that Turnpike was opening for Jason Aldean this summer
Can't confirm b/c TT is currently in Sweden, but I WILL find out.

I was prepared to disown the TT boys.
After some careful investigative work, I was able to determine that it was just a sick, sick joke.
