I thought it would come close to making it's budget back. Not. Even. Close.

When will studios learn that not every story deserves hundreds of millions of dollars invested in CGI?

I think in terms of movies like John Carter and Jack the Giant Slayer, they even knew they didn't have a built in audience so they doubled down in hundreds of millions in marketing.

I still want to see John Carter. I'm convinced it can't be as bad as the box office would make you believe.

I thought it was a decent movie. It was a victim of bad advertising and a dumb name.

Looked like a shite movie to begin with. Might recoup some of its budget overseas but for the most part...it's a dud.

John Carter is awesome. Don't let the "bomb," quotes turn you off of it.

So what does this have to say about Brian Singer? He's bombed the last few movies he's directed and this doesn't bode well for X-Men: Days of Future Past imo.

Didn't Battleship make a crap load of money worldwide?

Ever since he's been given a budget he's been a huge production cheese dick. I wasn't impressed with the news that he's returning. Just keeping my fingers crossed now.

$300 million domestic and worldwide. It's budget was $220 million not counting marketing.

Same. And I got a little more worried every time they announced an actor from the old trilogy was joining the new one.

Also, Havok and Banshee won't be back for Days of Future Past.

Watched JC one day just to use the 3D on my tv, and I was pleasantly surprised. Visuals were great. Shame it got railroaded like it did.

all three had terrible marketing campaigns.

meanwhile the Transformers series tore it up b/c it had MUCH better spots that made the concept seem exciting even those movies are complete trash.

you can't just splash a few explosions on the screen in the trailer and expect people to show up.

I thought JC was easily the best of the bunch and had the worst campaign by far. Literally the only thing I knew about it from the ads were JC could jump really high and there were alien looking things living in a desert. The fact that they barely pimped that it was from a long running books series was baffling.

Jack has a horrid set of spots as well. They couldn't decide if the movie was a more traditional epic fantasy film, a family flick, or a surreal comedy. Most of the ads simply crammed in as many one liners as possible which made them feel really disjointed and cheap.

The Battleship ads were probably the best of the three and even then they could have been handled better. At least they gave a good idea of what the film was about.

I actually saw Jack...my two boys (10 and 5) wanted to see it. They enjoyed it.

I thought it was about what you'd expect...some fairly shitty CGI giants knocking shite around and overacting.
