Last week, we reported that Matthew McConaughey was circling Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming sci-fi film, Interstellar. Nothing is known about the film other than it’s “a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding.” Today, the Star Tribune (via CHUD) reports that McConaughey told them, “I’m confirming.” He wouldn’t say anything beyond that, and I’m sure all of the actors who sign on will have the super-strict NDAs that come with joining a Nolan project.

Interesting choice by Nolan. thoughts??

McConaughey crushed it in "Killer Joe" last year so he definitely has the acting chops to do a Nolan movie. I think he'll be fine.

Mcconaughey isn't a bad actor at all, he just did too many chick flicks

Yeah, he's pretty good. His chick flicks are really the only ones I can stomach.

this.

as a matter of fact he has become a pretty damn good actor in recent years. his work in Killer Joe, The Lincoln Lawyer, Magic Mike, The Paperboy, etc. has been impressive. he is also in the upcoming film The Wolf of Wall Street and it is rumored that his performance in The Dallas Buyers Club will likely land him his first Oscar nomination.

I have compared his career to Ben Affleck's. no they're not EXACTLY alike, but are similar in the sense that they were both heartthrobs for women who did a huge stretch of chick flicks and therefor the critics and award voters have punished them for it anytime they try and make a "legit" movie. Ben Affleck's punishment was just recently lifted and he is now being taken seriously by them and I think that McConaughey will be next this year.

Sadly, Two things have to happen in this film now:

1. MM without a shirt
2. "Alright, Alright, Alright"

Nolan has one line of dialog set.

I trust Nolan, but this is a surprise. I have hard time taking MM seriously, but we'll see.

I actually like MM. Obviously he plays to his audience (over and over...and over), but he's not bad. I like a good bit of his movies. Not to mention he'll always have a special place in my heart as Wooderson.

This is what has me most excited:

who can really blame him for taking advantage of the rare opportunity he had you know? The Academy and other award voters generally frown upon actors from the South with a southern accent and rarely give them the same props they would for someone from elsewhere. McConaughey had a chance to knock down 15-20M per film to do a bunch of chick flicks and you can't really blame him for that.

Yeah, guy can act. He showed that way back with A Time to Kill. People need to get over their preconceived notions of him. I think Nolan has taken him on the project in anticipation of McConaughey's expected Oscar buzz and recent critical success, as well as to bring a name that draws some box office buzz. If he were Aronofsky, McConaughey would have been cast 5 years ago in the same movie and delivered an Oscar caliber performance while Aronofsky, yet again, caught none of the limelight. fricking Academy.

Yeah, I can't quite put my finger on it, but MM is film poison. He's not a bad actor, IMO. He just cheeses up the films he's in.

He's the male Kate Hudson.

Every movie, and he has never carried a movie in terms of quality.

I'm trying to think of the worst role humanly possible for him

Can you imagine "MM to star in holocaust film"
