Was it a state trooper? I've been pulled over several times and they seem to be the only ones who make you get out. I even had to get out on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. That was nerve wracking.

No, small town south of Lafayette ... city cop. Oh, and he had backup. I know .. he has no clue who's in the vehicle ... but it ended up being me, a mom in workout clothes and a ponytail on the way to pick up kids and grocery shop.

I just texted a buddy who is a trooper. He told me they are supposed to get everyone out of the car except in extenuating circumstances. He said they train them that it's safer. I don't see how standing outside next to traffic going 70-80 is safe, but that's what he said. All I know is standing outside on the basin when an 18 wheeler drove by did not feel safe.

I do whatever they tell me to do. But every time I've been stopped, they've come to me.

I stay In the car unless I'm told otherwise. I don't like guns pointed at me.

get my license and registration ready.

You really shouldn't do this until told to do so.

A guy at my department pulled a car over a couple years ago for speeding on a rural road. The guy reached in the glove compartment to get (what the officer assumed was) his registration. When the officer was even with the rear door, the driver turned, stuck a gun out of the window, and shot the officer 5 times. The first bullet went through his forehead.

Driver is now on death row.

Long story short, when you reach for anything, cops get nervous.

Saying the officer asked you to approach him reminded me of this video. It's graphic... you've been warned. LINK

exactly why the cop should get you out of the car anyway.

It's kinda obvious you are trying to make people assume you're attractive since you only got your "warning". Also we get it, you're a mom with a ponytail with workout clothes. So in other words- you weigh about 450, acne everywhere, and wanting man attention

Do you want to get shot or no?

stay in the car, windows down, hands at ten and two

And follow the safe and reasonable instructions of the officer. If he says "stay in the car" comply - if he says get out, do so in a completely calm, slow, reassuring fashion.

I pull over, roll down my windows and get my license and registration ready.
If it's dark, turn your interior light on too. It'll help.

I've always been told turn the car off, put the keys in plain sight and place hands 10-2 on the wheel.

Well, I did ... again papers in hand. Finally saw him motioning to me ... gave him papers and got off with a warning. Figured that would happen when he didn't come to me but what the hell do I know.

Stay in your car with the window down where he can see your hands. I wouldn't rustle around for your paperwork until he asks for it. He doesn't know what you are looking for.

Turn your music down, roll your window down, shut your car off, and follow verbal commands.

I prefer to have the offender outside of the vehicle for my safety.
