Question about Karate Kid 2

From what I remember when the bad guy was cheating the peasants by rigging the scales used to weigh their produce, Daniel-San broke the discs as if they were made of clay. This would make me think they were lighter than they should be, so wasnt he actually cheating himself??

I saw this last summer with my nephew and had the exact same thought. He would be cheating himself.

it is that super dense Okinawa clay.

No...The weights were light, meaning more weights would have to be used to balance the scales. The more weights used, the less money had to be paid.
On a related note, caught some of the Karate Kid in passing this weekend, right on Daniel-San's birthday party scene with Mr. Miyagi. All of the sudden, he starts cursing because his mom is throwing him a surprise birthday party and he has to leave immediately. Mr. Miyagi takes him outside, gives him a car, shows him a picture of the very hot Elisabeth Shue, and the next thing you know he's at the mini-golf and arcade place putting the moves on her. So, was there really a surprise party, or did Daniel-San bail on Mr. Miyagi?

No. He's saying if the discs are lighter than they should be, then you put more discs on, meaning the person has to pay more for their stuff.

So he is selling the villagers the produce? I always thought they were bringing their goods to him. This has bothered me since I first saw this when I was ten. I might have to go back and look, but I eventually just came to the conclusion that this was one of those Ocean's 11 or Jurassic Park moments the director hoped the audience wouldn't pick up on.

From a movie mostakes website:
But maybe they were selling them? It would work if they were, but I think the villagers were bringing their food to them though.
Also, I didn't realize until I was looking for that pic I posted that the bad guy's name was Chozen. I'm not sure I ever knew that until today.
quote:
Plot hole: In the scene where Chozen is buying vegetables from the villagers, one of the weights from the scale is knocked onto the ground. Daniel picks it up and realises that its not a real weight and breaks it in half. If Chozen wanted to cheat the villagers when he weighed their vegetables, he would need weights that were heavier than normal, not lighter plastic ones. Lighter weights would mean that Chozen would need to add far more of the light weights to make any amount of vegetables balance out, therefore he would be paying more for the vegetables than they are worth.
But maybe they were selling them? It would work if they were, but I think the villagers were bringing their food to them though.

Love when he picks Daniel and miyagi up from the airport and plays that song on the radio that was playing at the country club when Daniel got all the pasta spilled on him.

I always thought he owned the crops. Villagers were picking food, taking it to the dude with the scales, and paying for it based upon the weight. Kinda like the strawberry patch.

BTW, just watched the scene of them in the car when they first get to Okinawa, and it's definitely the same song as the spaghetti incident.
