Hahn pointed to a mechanical issue with Mitchell’s setup and balance out of college that could only get better with repetition. Now in his fourth spring training, the outfielder appears to have turned a corner with that repetition, as he is turning heads with a hot bat, blazing speed and stellar outfield play. Through nine games played, Mitchell is batting .450 with two triples, one home run, one double and four RBI. Perhaps more importantly, he only has four strike outs.

Mitchell is close, yes. Clark just signed a 2 or 3 year contract in Japan.

Having former players in MLB is nice but overrated.
The '96/'97 teams (best stretch in the history of the school) had how many true MLBers (other than guys that got a sniff)?
...& those teams include plenty of guys that played on the '98 team that was very close to winning it all again.
(it always amazed me how that dominant stretch produced so little professional success in comparison, say, to the teams of the mid/late '80s)

Considering their success, I was always amazed that more Skip recruits didn't make a dent in the majors. The best players like Furniss, Cresse, Larson did jack in the pros.

Varying arm-speed causes change to approach plate flat, with little drop. Can show feel and fade, but needs work honing offering. Average potential. Lack of development with pitch will push him to a bullpen role. Appears to over-think things. Needs to be more loose. Still learning to incorporate lower half into pitching mechanics. Has some rigidness in delivery, which can wear him out after laboring. Room for growth as becomes more polished. Third starter ceiling at major league level.

Hawpe has struggled to come back from elbow surgery and didn’t play in the majors at all last season. He was released by the Rangers in the middle of last season and then got released by the Pirates in the middle of spring training this year.
So maybe Hawpe can come back

Where is Ryan Schimpf? Will we see him again in the MLB? I was actually one of his first baseball coaches, having coached him in jefferson parish back in the early 1990's . Bertuccinni was a teammate also ( or possibly he played a year before ). I continued coaching select baseball when I moved to Lafayette for work. My second year in Lafayette I put a strong travel team together that included none other than Mikey Mahtook. These kids were 9 yrs old at the time. I helped them pursue their dreams, nurtured their absolute love for the game and propelled forward their desire to ultimately excel at this sport. Watching them play at that age is fascinating; when they go airborne diving for a ball with arms outstretched, they really do think its the World Series out there and they are the league's MVP. At that age, the future still lies ahead, the future is unwritten. They are free to harness themselves to those dreams and aspirations each and every time they step between the lines for the challenge, for the competition and for simply the excitement the game generates.
