you would be shocked how many people have been on here comparing him to pat white
not this guy. he was a great college QB. Made quick decisions and got the ball out early.

who the hell is this guy writing this
name me one successful NFL QB who throws <10 yard passes 60% of the time? There really isn't anyone in the NFL to compare the guy to that is successful.

On the other hand, there are a ton of guys who've played in the NFL that can make every throw, like Matt Barkley can do. Do I think Barkley is going to be successful in the NFL? No. But, history tells me he has a much better shot than Geno Smith.

are you arguing that Geno Smith did not throw 60% of his passes for 10 yards or less?

what don't you agree with? that Matt Barkley can make all the throws? that's all college football and NFL scouts have been saying about him since he was in high school.

Show me one person (pundit, scout - whoever) that has said Geno Smith can't make every NFL throw. There isn't one.

And most have said Geno's overall throwing ability (accuracy, velocity, etc) are best of the bunch, including Barkley. Just because Geno threw primarily short throws in college thanks to the offense he played in does not mean he can't make every big down-field throw asked of him. As SCH has pointed out - if you have watched him play this year you would know this from seeing it with your own two eyes.

When you look at Smith’s passes this year, more than 60 percent of his throws were for nine yards or less. That’s the distance the ball traveled in the air from the line of scrimmage – not the total distance on the play. And only 10.6 percent of his passes traveled 20 yards or more in the air.

Geno Smith is not an NFL QB

Ok, so that "distance thrown" statistic was bugging me, cause the writer implies Geno hardly ever threw down-field compared to Barkley or Mike Glennon. Anyone who has watched a WVU game knows that is a joke. He states:

When you look at Smith’s passes this year, more than 60 percent of his throws were for nine yards or less. That’s the distance the ball traveled in the air from the line of scrimmage – not the total distance on the play. And only 10.6 percent of his passes traveled 20 yards or more in the air. When you compare Smith to Barkley and Glennon, there’s a fairly significant difference. Barkley averaged 13 throws of 20 yards or more while Glennon threw 15.9 passes of that distance.

I couldn't figure out why he was giving a % of throws for Geno, but hard numbers of throws per game of Barkley and Glennon. Then I realized this dipshit was mis-quoting his stats. He probably got his percentages from here:

LINK

I won't paste the actual stats breakdown (thanks to formatting it comes out as gibberish), but basically Barkley threw 20+ yards down-field 13% of the time (not 13 throws per game) compared to Geno's 10.6%.

10-19 yards? 28.4% for Geno, 23.4% for Barkley.

9 yards or less? 61% for Geno, and a whopping 63.6% for Barkley.

El-oh-fricking-el, so much for

What does a con artist and fraud have to do with being a good football player?

But to justify it with "He has no work ethic and no focus" is kind of bogus to me.

exactly. I'm not even sure if Nawrocki even believes that himself though. Some of the stuff you read from PFW is just compilations of other scouts opinions anyway. I'm wondering if he is just kind of going off of what they say and trying to put it into his own words.

Again, their stuff can be a pretty good read but I don't take any of it as the end all be all of NFL draft discussion.

this guy seems like a bit of an attention whore to me.
