What's so surprising about it. It's colder up north so they prefer to stay inside and play hoops all day instead of going outside and playing football or baseball

There is plenty of basketball talent in most major cities in the South. It's just that not all of the talent is going to SEC schools.

About 15% doesn't seem that low to me considering only one team in the final four is from SEC country.

Ding, ding, ding, ding!

Oh yeah, and we take our 6'5 forwards and turn them into first round draft pick defensive ends.

Especially when you consider that the one school from SEC country has a national recruiting footprint and doesn't worry about staying local.

This isn't anything new, players from the Deep South have always been super athletic but have no clue how to play basketball. The reason is there is so much focus on football and basketball is coached by an assistant football coach.

And (excluding TX & MO) the southern states account for about 15% of the nations population.

Unless you play at a big HS that isn't that good at football, this is the painful truth.

No offense but I've always called it the SEC West affect. You see it all the time with Alabama, Mississippi St, LSU, you've got unreal athletes that are basically still learning basketball.

Eric Bledsoe was a good example for us. Probably the most athletic guy on the 2010 team and yet drove Kentucky fans crazy at the beginning of the year because of his decision making.
