Yeah, I imagine his body was in shock. I bet he redshirts next year. Hope he is back and healthy for the 2014-15 season.

I can't imagine he'll be ready in just 18 months.

There's a picture of him on crutches here:

I tried posting the image and just got the blue question mark.

I was amazed at how calm he was

About 7 years ago, I snapped my tibia and fibula right above the ankle in a church league basketball game. It was a layup...first FG attempt of the year

When it happened immediately I thought I tore something. I heard the pop and felt some pain but it just wasn't as excruciating as you would think. Then when I saw my foot facing the opposite direction it got real.

As I waited for the ambulance, I joked...first I asked if I made the shot, then when asked if I needed anything I said "milk". I had everyone laughing. It wasn't until after the surgery that I wanted to die...so painful and I was on button morphine which made me have vivid dreams and I would flinch in my sleep and wake up to the most serious pain I've ever felt.

To this day I have a rod and 2 pins in there and I'd be lying if I said it didn't give me trouble on the court.

Have they released the x-rays post surgery? Am interested to see the work by the docs.

Possibly good for Louisville in the long run?

Perhaps, but they could use him next year as I assume Russ is gong pro.

I don't know. I know not all broken bone injuries are the same, but I could see this easily ending his career as an elite college / pro athlete. I remember Tyrone Prothro at Alabama breaking his leg and getting the rod insert in what seems like a similar fashion and he could barely run a couple of years later, much less get back to playing condition at that level.

I'm just going off what I've heard. Reports are that he'll be out a little bit over a full year.

I hope infection doesn't get him like it did for Prothro. Complete breaks where the bone protrudes out of the skin is very high risk for infection. I'm sure he's on a scary huge spectrum of antibiotics that is ripping his insides up.

Good for this kid, but I doubt he ever gains confidence in his leg again to be a serious basketball player. I know I wouldn't. I would tiptoe everywhere

Has to be just a freak thing. When you saw the Duke players reacting, you knew it was bad...then they showed the replay. UL's bench reaction was kinda funny though (obviously the injury isn't).

Ya they were trying to get as far away from him as possible. He seems like a good kid who is very mentally tough so I wish him the best!

As others have alluded to, in a serious injury situation, sometimes the victim is the calmest one.
