I had a rough time for a while cycling through dog foods that didn't give the lil guy the shits and finally settled on Blue Buffalo. I've had an off and on problem with his coat being a tad dry. I know I can supplement with other "fats/oil" to help, but I don't want to keep doing that. What do you guys feed or do when this problem arises. I know they have an oil based coat and you need to keep an I on it... I brush him a few times a week and let him play outside as much as possible....
My breeder has had some health issues so i'm trying not to bother her too much right now. Thanks.

I feed GSP blue buffalo as well and I don't know that mine has dry skin issues....I do feed him high fat treats though.

My 3 shorthairs have 3 different types of coats. My oldest male has very fine thick hair, my female has a corse hard that is thinner but not dry. My other dog is in between. None have dry a dry skin issue. My inlaws's shorthair has corse hair and get allergies where she rubs in the grass with her back and sometimes needs antibiotics to help clear it up...

ETA- I feed Pro Plan.

Salmon kibble from Costco, fishoil tablets as treats, sweet potatoe treats. I also use Canadian vets shampoo and bathe her minimally and she still gets dandruff. But it'saa lot better than if I did t do all that

Yeah I have. I was deciding between TOTW and blue buffalo and tried TOTW first for some reason. My dog was also fed pro plan as a puppy and did pretty horrible on it, but he's done great ever since I switched foods. He's a Great Dane though, so his coat is much different than a GSP

yeh, but the foods have a fat content higher than blue buffalo. it has really good reviews and ratings... price doesn't seem to be too bad, might give it a swing.

Yeah I think it was a few dollars cheaper than blue buffalo IIRC. In BR it's like $49 with tax, but I'm about to start ordering online. I think it's $7-8 cheaper that way

ETA: I buy the wetlands formula, it's roasted quail, duck, etc., but I've read good reviews about all the formulas

My GSP eats Blue Buffalo Wilderness Duck and has never had any skin/coat issues. She does have hip dysplasia but has never shown any signs of pain. She gets an injection every 3 months and a hip suppliment every day. As far as the food she has never had any other health issues so I plan on staying with it.

30/20.its a pain to keep weight on mine and this does as good a job as any if not better. i still put him on land o lakes milk replacer a month or 2 before hunting season to get some extra weight on him.

he's ~65 lbs and i feed 4 measured 8 ounce cups a day.
