Good movie but it's bullshite that Brendan (Joel Edgerton) just magically became a great fighter all of sudden. It was suppose to be a heartfelt ending but it felt like the completely opposite with Tommy (Tom Hardy) getting his arse handed to him in the final fight, it turned into a sad ending. It almost feels like the bad guy prevailed in a way.
I was also bothered by the fact that Tommy was made out to be the bad guy. He took care of his mother, lost his best friend in the war, saved a group of Marines, and pledged all his money to his best friends widow. However Brendan is made out to be the hero when in reality the only struggles he has in life is his overspending.
I know it's an older movie but I felt like ranting

Huh? She was the one that tried to keep them on a budget. He was the one spending all of the money.

Okay I edited that part, I think I'm still bitter because I hated her character on House Md.

I found myself wanting them to have a split decision and split the money so they could both win.

First, you rooted for Cobra Kai against Daniel, right?
I don't think Tommy was the antagonist or bad guy, he just had crappy circumstances in his life. And, IMO, a good amount of the money went to the widow. I know it wasn't shown, but I can make my own ending.
Last, how awesome is it that 3 of the final 4 were from Pittsburgh, along with the actor playing the Russian. PA represent!

I thought it was great. I didn't think Tommy was a bad guy either. I was rooting or both. Great performances all-around.

Uh, the guy was a former UFC fighter. All of the sudden?

Wait did he spend the money or was their financial situation brought on by their child's medical bills?

Tommy wasn't the bad guy. It was a family drama with fighting. The bad guy is the conflict.

I think you mean a draw.

Which is pretty hard to do with a odd number of rounds

I think Brendan was supposed to be considered a washed up fighter, not necessarily that he was a bad fighter but maybe more out of the game. Not that big of a stretch IMO.
Only major flaw in this movie to me is that they fought two fights one night, then two the next night. A fighters face is so swollen and mangled the day after, there's no way they could fight back to back nights. That's why those old Grand Prix events were all in one day or every other weekend.
Great movie though.

How awesome are Tommy's traps in this movie!?

I absolutely loved this movie, but I do agree I was pulling for Tommy during the entire movie and the ending disappointed me even though it was still a good ending. Some things were a little far fetched, but it was still my favorite movie that year. Tom Hardy blew up for it! His traps were ridiculous.
