I dont follow college hoops, so I know only what I read from dx etc, but michael carter williams seems like an intriguing fit.

too high for where they will be picking?

MCW is rising on lots of draft boards. Hard to know how good of a defender he is with the zone. I think taking him is a reach if we pick 6 or higher but at 9 it might not be a bad pick bc I don't really like the bigs in the draft after Noel. mCW also has character issues apparently. But what do I know.

He was a lot higher in the first half of the season when he was averaging 11 asts a game. He came back down to earth though.
His main problem though, is that he might be the worst shooter in the draft. He's gonna add zero as far as scoring and I while we might not need a Kobe Bryant type of scorer, we definitely don't another Aminu type of black hole on offense. Especially from the guy who's gonna dominate the ball.

Months ago he did get caught stealing from a mall or something. I guess it kind of went away because they've never really talked about it since

Lillard is responsible for, I think, around 40% of Portlands offense. He makes an impact by other ways than just scoring.

I like Trey Burke alot. Only knock on him is his size. I doubt he will measure 6'0 with his shoes off and weighs 180 soaking wet. He likes to do alot of his work in the paint, and at that size it will be hard in the NBA. Not saying he cant do it, but thats really the only knock on him at the moment. He can really heat up from 3 when hes on.

But, Im 1 of those guys that thinks we have a bigger need at the 3 and 5 than we do at PG. Gravy is at least serviceable. And we arent sure what we are going to exactly do with EG. Trade him? Keep him? Who knows... The thing is with this draft though is that there really isnt a stud. At any position. There are a lot of 6'3-6'7 shooting guards that will have to put up a lot of shots. Smart, McElmore, Shabazz, etc.

I like Oladipo, but not as a top 8 pick. Hes a great defender and great in transition, but he disappears when you set up the offense and actually run plays. He gets his points by making stops on D and turning them into dunks or lay ups in transition. And you dont want to take a guy in the top 10 who has trouble creating his own shot and has trouble making jumpers. He reminds me of a 6'4 MKG, who has not played up to expectations.

I think I would still go with Otto Porter. Yes, they lost to FGCU and he didnt play particularly well, but he still had like 13 and 11. Hes not a #1 option, but we dont need him to be our go to guy. Hes a very efficient scorer(48% from FG, and 42% from 3) who doesnt need a lot of shots to put up solid numbers. And he is a good defender and rebounder. I think he is the type of player we need more than a PG at the moment.

But, what happens in FA will dictate where we go. A lot of things can still happen like trading Gordon, siging a solid player, etc. Just need to wait and see how it unfolds.

Trey Burke is the best player in America hands down, but the best draft prospect is a different story. All depends on what direction the Pelicans wanna go really which we will know soon enough after draft day. Draft either Shabazz or Porter and set your corr. Draft possibly Noel if there are no recovery issues and create a dominant frontcourt of the future. Draft Burke and trade Rivers to the Celtics who will overpay but retain GV.

Hopefully the Pelicans stat clear of Zeller, Len, Oladipo, or Smart. I really do like Carter-Williams but do not know how much more he brings than GV both are similar.

I like MCW a lot too. I've been reading a lot of articles about him and people compare him to a Rondo, but he's 6'5-6'6 with a 6'9 wingspan. Freak. Like Rondo, he might not average 20 points but he will make his impact in assist and rebounds. Sure, he has work to do in his jumper. But that's what most young players struggle with anyways. Being an efficient scorer. He's a smart, pass 1st PG with elite height for the position and with his size and athleticism should excel on the defensive end. As far as him and GV being similar, I think MCW has a way higher ceiling. I think MCW has a higher ceiling than a lot of players in the draft.

Should we take him? No clue. I feel that we have bigger needs at the 3 and 5 than we do at PG. while some people don't want Porter after seeing him play in 1 game, I still think he would be the best fit for us.
