What made you think of that?

I saw Lew post and we've played some BL2 together.

Well, this is what happens I seed a very popular torrent for several days in a row.
Didn't even realize it until today, but it had been uploading at about 800-900KB/s for days.
9 days into my billing cycle
This will be an interesting month.

I heard that deal talked about on the PCPer podcast.
Funny.
Funny.

What do you think? It really does look tempting, and I am getting tired of waiting on affordable and widely available 120hz 1440p, and these 290s would enjoy pushing the extra pixels more than likely.
But I don't want my productivity to suffer either, and I know quite a few programs have scaling issues, and gaming is really only about 20% of my use.

These 970s look tempting...

Its not a bad deal and also didn't think my RoG Swift wasnt all that pricey. G-sync is amazing , but the monitor should sale for 100 cheaper IMO. TN still sucks for color depth.

$800 is a bit much, particularly since I don't have NVIDIA cards and couldn't take advantage of Gsync. Also, they seem to be impossible to find.

Are you taking into account that it comes with a "free" 250GB 840 Evo?
Even still, the whole TN Panel issue is the reason I didn't order it yesterday. Maybe I'll give 4K some more time.
My attention has recently been turned to this as well:
I haven't seen actual bang for buck from high-end NVIDIA in a long time.

Also, who here is running Samsung 840 EVO SSDs? I just stumbled across a discussion that's pretty important.
LINK
Apparently, the longer a file remains on the SSD, the slower it is to be read. And by slower, I mean MUCH slower. Reddit link above, but the OCN thread is better:
LINK
I tested this myself a few minutes ago.
I tested a 2GB sound file in my Watch Dogs game installation folder using Parkdale. I bought my 500GB Evo on August 10, and the file I tested was added to the drive on August 12, so just over 5 weeks ago.
Read: 60MB/s -
I then made a copy of it within the same folder and tested again:
This makes me sad.
However, after running MyDefrag v4.3.1 "Flash Memory Disks," the original file began to read normally. I'm going to monitor the performance degradation over the next few weeks, so I have a rough idea of how often I should run this defrag. The defrag should not significantly reduce the life of the SSD to any span that a normal human tends to keep drives. However, it is quite irritating that this has to be done at all. If it really is just a wear-leveling bug, Samsung needs to release a firmware update ASAP or they've lost my fanboyism. This does not affect the 840 pro, however. It's possibly not an issue on any MLC NAND drive.

Thanks for the infos! It looks more and more that the EVO has a bug.
In the thread with the same topic on a German website the most likely cause of this issue discussed, is a bug in the 'wear leveling / garbage collection' mechanism of the EVO.
https://www.computerbase.de/forum/showthread.php?t=1381604&page=5
EVO bug theory in short:
- Flash cells can only sustain a limited number of write cycles (writing requires erasing the flash cell)
- If all static data/files would stay in the flash cells to which they have been written to originally, the remaining flash cells would have to endure all the write cycles for changing data and would quickly wear out
- That's why all SSD reorganize old data and writes them into different flash cells, in order to spread the necessary erase cycles as evenly as possible over all flash cells. This is called wear leveling
And if the EVO has a bug in the wear leveling which causes the old data to be rearranged in a disadvantageous configuration for reading (e.g. they are all put into the same flash block so that there is no parallel block reading possible), that would explain the results we see here.
Here is an article which explains the GC/wear leveling:

I think so, especially if you have an idea of how your SSD should be performing in real-world tasks. I haven't had mine long enough to see any degradation in boot times, but the sequential read of that one file alone was drastically reduced until it was rewritten. My hard drive performed twice as fast on much older files using the same program. I hadn't noticed any degradation in day-to-day tasks, but I've mostly been using MS Word since I've been swamped at work, and maybe rebooting once every couple of weeks.
I fricking might

To mean the performance gains aren't that big but they lowered the price which is awesome.
