I hate everyone, its getting better with therapy.

The reason I like children is simply to teach. Love passing on knowledge.

Could someone give me a little advice on a first time build? I'm trying to go as cheap as possible because I've just gotten back to work after 4 1/2 months off, and also, I really don't know what the hell I'm doing. So please excuse my ignorance.

I have this crappy dell and I was thinking of just upgrading it a little at a time. It has an integrated motherboard, so I was thinking of getting a new motherboard with AM3+ socket, and a new video card, and then upgrade the processor a couple months down the road. It has an athlon II x4 630 processor now. Would this be possible to do, and if I did, would I be able to use the tower, hard drive, power supply, and optical drives with it. The power supply in it is 300w, and this video card I was looking at says it needs 300. I was looking at this motherboard. I don't know much at all about the stuff though, I just found them on a build posted online somewhere. Thanks in advance for any help posted.

What model dell do you have? Upgrades of off-the-shelf desktop systems are often limited. Specifically, I'm wondering if the chassis will even accommodate an ATX motherboard. The power supply might be fine for that card, especially since it draws all of its power from PCIe slot, but the question is whether your PSU has enough amperage on a single rail that's shared with the motherboard's 20/24-pin power connector. So, need to know the Dell model.

I also question the need to even upgrade the CPU if you're going to be gaming with a low-end graphics card. I don't see the X4 being a bottleneck for standard games, nor a substantial CPU upgrade (like an 8320 or 8350) being of much benefit to a 750 Ti unless you're playing CPU-heavy games.

Depending on compatibility (which I'll know when you post the model number), you could just get the 750 ti for gaming right now and wait some time to save for a better build altogether.

So I'm getting a PNY GT 520 for free with my h100i I ordered. I'm thinking of:

A. Light it on fire
B. Microwaving it
C. Play baseball with it
D. Give it to coyote for masturbation material

Why would they even bother adding extra weight to the shipping?

The youtubes say it will do 30 fps on Far Cry 3 at 720p and rock-bottom settings. LINK

It's an inspiron 570. I did have the motherboard model number written down, but I must have thrown it away.

ATX motherboard will fit. However, the power supply is 18 amps on a single 12v rail, which means 216 watts devoted to the 12v rail. The 12v rail powers, among other things, your CPU and GPU. You could probably get away with the 750 ti in the existing board paired with the existing CPU. If you upgrade motherboard and CPU to one of the 8-core options, it's less certain how the PSU will handle it.

Have you read this? LINK

It's over a year old but gives a general idea of what you can fit in the case. Just ignore the GPU suggestion (7750). It's outdated, and the point is to get a card that does not require auxiliary power from PCIe power connectors.

I am about to sell my mining gear, which means I have 4 video cards for sale.

1 x HIS R9-280X
HIS iPower IceQ X² Boost Clock

Newegg Link
Reference design.

1 x HIS R9-270X
HIS IceQ X² Boost

Newegg Link
Reference design.

2 x PowerColor R9-270X
PowerColor PCS+ AXR9

Newegg Link

Used for mining on a low-power algorithm (x11). Card temps never exceeded 75C during scrypt mining and have been much, much lower most of the time. I ran them in a closed case with dust filters over 4 high-rpm high static pressure radiator fans blowing in from the side panel at full speed, so the video card fans themselves never had to work very hard.

In fact, they're mining x11 right now at full throttle, and here are the temps and fan information:

One of the PowerColors is not mining at the moment because I needed to make room for the 280x.

Overclocking:
The PowerColors are voltage-locked but already have a boost clock of 1100Mhz. Memory base clock is 1425MHz.
The HIS 270x voltage is unlocked and has a boost clock of 1050mhz. Memory base clock is 1400Mhz.
The HIS 280x voltage is unlocked and has a boost clock of 1000MHz. memory base clock is 1500.

My overclocking on these cards is limited only to a mining environment and may not have the same capabilities under load from a game, but all three of the 270x cards did 1160/1500 mining, without any voltage changes. I never tried pushing it higher than that, except for the memory. It started to present problems mining scrypt at a mem clock of 1525, but mining on this algo is extremely memory-intensive.

The HIS 280x will overclock well. Did some gaming on it when I had my 7970s. Ran them with the 280x in 3-way crossfire. Ran all three cards at matching specs of 1100/1650 and the 280x did well.

All 4 cards come with original boxes, which will likely cost more to ship. Please keep that in mind when making offers.

I'll entertain serious offers here, and then I'll probably put them on hwswap.

That link looks like it should be a lot of help. I'll check it out tonight. If I could get away with just a video card, I'll probably do that, and try to build something from scratch later on.

What do you guys use to manage music these days on your PC. Also do music CDs have any DRM or can I just copy mine straight onto my PC? I know iTunes does all this but I hate iTunes.

I use folders and subfolders on my hard drive. Mostly listen to Pandora though.

I haven't ripped a CD in probably 10 years, but last time I did it there was no problem.

I'm the same way. I still have all my cd's though and I thought about ripping them to preserve them since some have become scratched over time.

How much would you sell this laptop for used? It used to run about $650 new.
