Unfortunately, this delidding will not yield me 5.0GHz safely. It'll do 4.7GHz with less than 1.3v, but 5.0 requires more than 1.5v. Nope.

I saw a thread on OCN about a guy whose haswell died after he put 1.5v into it. He thinks that killed it, even though his temps were normal. The replies to it are really stupid. I guess with such an active forum, the percentage of morons has to increase as a rule of the internets. Later in the thread, turned out his second 4770k died in the same motherboard, this time at 1.25v. Gee, I wonder.

I assume, but it's hard to put a stop to retarded debates, like the guy who got butthurt when someone mentioned that the H100i is insufficient cooling for a Haswell at 1.5v (a very true statement). Several pages of fail because someone didn't know the difference between insufficient and poor quality.


Also, Haswell and RAM have an interesting relationship. You pretty much have to choose between a higher overclock on the CPU or the RAM -- simply because the Haswell's IMC can't handle high speed RAM at higher CPU clocks. Starts to require more and more voltage. So, what that means is that awesome 2133+ RAM people used with Ivy might end up needing to stay at 1866 or 1600 with Haswell, if you want an OC beyond 4.5.

I'm not sure what this means about RAM selection, though. In theory, you might get better CPU OC results by getting some 2133 sticks that easily run at their rated speeds, and just run them at a cool 1600 or 1866 with less voltage.

I'm messing with the Crucial RAM I got free with the motherboard. 1.35 DDR3 1600. If it yields better results than my corsair vengeance, I may keep it. The MPower BIOS recognizes my Corsair as 1333mhz by default until I load the XMP profile. The BIOS sees the crucial as 1600 default.

EXTREMELY NICE ASSORTMENT OF PARTS! First thing you do is bench before installing any games on the system.

Great choices though, from the PSU to the case fans(Not LED right?).. you will be well satisfied with the TFIII 7950, the cooler is great and OC's very very well(1262 w/ Stock Voltage).

The fans are led. I wanted to try out setting up a led board. I checked and saw the cfm's are the same.

Probably going to start building tomorrow, the gf is demanding a night

I think I'll nix the LEDs when I get a caselabs case. But my current case has 4 120mm LED fans on the side panel pulling in cold air, and the front still has that stock 240mm LED fan.

And the raystorm has blue LEDs.


I don't think it looks THAT bad. Definitely could be worse, with UV orange tubing and yellow kink coils, some red cathodes that pulsate to music, big stenciling of a dragon or some shite on the case, topped off with a call of duty themed mouse.
