I know obviously A-rods contract may have that title but at least they got something out of it to begin with.

2013 31 Los Angeles Dodgers $13,500,000
2014 32 Los Angeles Dodgers $15,500,000
2015 33 Los Angeles Dodgers $18,000,000
2016 34 Los Angeles Dodgers $18,000,000
2017 35 Los Angeles Dodgers $17,500,000
2018 36 Los Angeles Dodgers *$17,500,000

How that dude got this money is beyond me.

Vernon Wells.

eta: Ethier may be overpaid, but at least he's overpaid and good. Wells is just awful.

Yea Wells' contract was pretty ridiculous.

After thinking about it for a bit, I don't know what was worst. Toronto giving Wells that contract or the Angels trading for it. I'm leaning towards the latter.

The Dodgers are literally flushing money down the toilet. From day one, they overbid on the franchise by $700 million. Do you know what that could buy you? Either a new stadium (without costing the taxpayers) or almost three Albert Pujols.

I understand the ownership and TV deal gives them nearly unlimited wealth, but no reason to go and overpay everything by an exorbitant amount.

The answer is easily Vernon Wells. The day that the Angels accepted that contract is the day that Alex Anthro became the best GM in the game.

instead of paying him a lump sum of the $5.9 million they owed him, they decided to defer payment on the contract until 2011, and then pay him over a million a year for 25 years, assuming an interest rate of 8 percent.

wow.

what kind of a moron would ok a deal like that?

were they banking on him dying before the 25 years are up?

The Mets owners were making $$$$$ hand over fist, seem like a great idea to defer payment when your financial advisor is earning you a 80% annual return. Then again the reason they were getting this great return was their financial advisor was Madoff.

The Mets owe Johan Santana $31 million and he might never throw another pitch for them.

even if they were doing well financially at the time I just dont see how it could ever make sense to pay $25 million instead of just under $6 million.
