very few professions that have lucrative jobs awaiting while the ink is still wet on the sheepskin, and zero experience, of all post grad schools, I think law is by far easiest,to get in, stay in, and graduate in, not a slam at all, just a qualified observation, it's probably the one that relies most heavily on networking, connections, and nepotism, probably a more realistic market place now, I'm not sure why any firm would "fight" over a graduating law student

What's the story with the airline industry? I got out because it was shite 5 years ago. Now the legal market is in the same spot, just as those captains reach 65!

Figures.

99% combination of your law school rank and grades. It's pretty much buying a lottery ticket where you either screw up your life entirely or find a solid career where you work your butt off. Going 200K in debt for a 40% shot at a six figure starting salary scared me.

Damn sons, where'd you go to law school? Probably not the best investment.

You can be always be a more than successful lawyer by going the state school in the state you want to practice in.

Say what you will but it is impressive to me for LSU to be on any list among the giants that made the top 10.

I believe it's actually turning around now and heading for another one of the "good" cycles. It would be a great time to be getting qualified and marketable as a pilot now, as the stagnation of the industry over the last almost two decades, and old age of the pilot group is about to cause big time forced attrition, coinciding with the turn around of the economy, and another round of re-balancing(read ch. 11 and mergers ,) of the airlines. Major aircraft orders have been placed, hiring will follow soon.

The law field is also correcting itself. # of LSAT takers/law applicants is decreasing pretty steadily.

You also have to look at the baby boomers who will be retiring soon.

Most lawyers do not retire, they die. I can think of maybe 3 that I know that actually retired.

I know of no one, literally no one, from my class that was hired by LSU.

Exactly. Could've gone to Minnesota, which is a "top 20" school. Would've paid $52k a year to do so. Told them to F off.

I laugh, hardily, at the people who say "Go to the best law school you can get into." No. Go to the best law school you can get into and afford.

Not to mention law school is what you make it (cliche, I know). You can do well and make connections anywhere.

My school with living expenses is around that too. I can't imagine someone paying sticker when tuition is 50k+/year.

This is correct. There are many in the profession now that won't be practicing through the decade or much thereafter. Go to law school if you wish. There will be room in the profession for good attorneys.

Across the country, the pool of applicants for law school admissions in 2013 is shaping up to be even smaller than the past two years.

According to data the council released last month, applications as of mid-January were down 20 percent compared with the same time in 2012. At that rate, total applications for the year could fall by 38 percent.
