Could Netflix's Arrested Development change TV forever?

In the past, episodic TV has been necessarily linear. Episodes followed one after another, and there was an order in which to watch them. This has been so much the case that fans get outraged when networks air episodes out of order, even on shows that do not contain continuing plotlines. But the revival of Arrested Development sheds that completely, and it seems that the new series - all episodes of which will drop at the same time - can be watched in any order you like. Each episode represents a specific character's point of view on the events of the series, and those points of view can be radically different.

It will be views from behind plants and doorways for scenes that you didn't even realize he was around.

Based on knowing you strictly from posting on the internet, I figure your IRL POV isn't too far off from his

When are these episodes supposed to come out? I thought it was late February...??

Jason Bateman likened it to an album. You can skip around however you like.

I think the article is really reaching. We've seen many shows do this within episodes, the only thing new here is expanding the POV to an entire episode. Also, how can this be the death of linear TV when you really need to know the characters to fully enjoy their perspective? This would be a terrible format for a new series.

This is just going to make it hard for us to have a season thread about it

It pushes TV closer towards the Netflix model (ie having all episodes available at once). It takes advantage of the common habit of weekend binge watching which, I think, would allow for more experimentation with the complexities of the episodic format.

Your analysis is better than his.

Agree. Cola says it better
I like watching multiple episodes at a time way more. Netflix changed tv for me. Sometimes I just DVR stuff and don't watch until episodes pile up

I'm really really hoping it lives up to my expectations but I love the first 3 seasons so they are sky high
