Steelers, James Harrison, Victor Butler and the Saints

ESPN is reporting that the Steelers have no interest in bringing back James Harrison.
They also report that Pittsburgh will be getting some cap relief after June 1st.
We all know the Steelers had Victor Butler visit and he left without a contract.
Butler is a target of the Saints at this point. I think we need to make a push before the Steelers get cap space to throw extra money at him.
Does anyone think Butler wants to go to Pittsburgh and that's why he's taking visits and waiting until June 1st?
If we lose out on Butler, is Harrison a viable option? He should be cheap as it appears there isn't much interest in him. Maybe a one or two year contract like we did with Sharper? We know he's interested and we know Payton wants to bring in another OLB.

James Harrison's agent told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the five-time Pro Bowl linebacker hasn't closed the door on returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The feeling is apparently not mutual.
The Steelers have informed Harrison that they are no longer interested in bringing him back, a source told The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
They also report that Pittsburgh will be getting some cap relief after June 1st.

Pittsburgh is $2.57 million under the cap, and barring an unexpected restructured contract, that leaves little space to sign a free agent or for its upcoming eight draft picks.
The Steelers will have to remain patient until after June 1. That's when the Steelers get the $5.5 million for releasing offensive lineman Willie Colon, who was designated as a June 1 cut.

The Steelers also had Cowboys free agent Victor Butler in for a visit, but he may not be available in 10 weeks.

former Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison would "love to be in New Orleans," according to his agent, Bill Parise.
"The Saints would be a great fit," Parise said Sunday afternoon.
quote:
Saints Coach Sean Payton said Friday the Saints could look to add an outside linebacker in free agency or in the draft.

To be fair, hes called half the league a "great fit"

It seems that Pitt would rather have Butler than Harrison and I'll trust their Def. judgement over ours sadly.
Its a buyers market right now and June 1st seems to be a date a lot of teams and FA's are looking to.
Haven't seen any film on either of theswe guys from last year but would generally prefer younger and cheaper FA's.

I'd rather have Butler for sure. Just not sure if Harrison is a viable back up plan. Kind of like Porter for Nnamdi.

Chad, you suck and I'm now on Team Maximus.

Butler.....Yes
Harrison....No. he's 35 and probably would be fined weekly for his big hits.
I like this guy in the 4th round
OLB KEITH POUGH - HOWARD
ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Athletic chase linebacker with speed to close on quarterbacks in the pocket and running backs from the backside. Hustles to track down ballcarriers from across the formation, and has the length and change of direction skills to grab ballcarriers after engaging a lineman in a different gap. Usually finds the ball on misdirection plays. Brings bad intentions in his tackle attempts; drives targets back by dropping his hips and keeping his feet moving and straight-on meetings and throws down any ballcarrier in his path. Stays true to his containment responsibility and sheds blocks of FCS tight ends and tackles adeptly with strong hands and quickness. Willing to take on blockers in the hole or throw his body into tackles on the edge to help others make the play. Tosses aside running backs with strong hands when rushing the quarterback. Should be an effective open-lane blitzer due to his speed and flexibility to turn the corner or move around traffic in the pocket. Good movement skills in coverage, willing to lay the wood on short crossers when playing zone. Weaves his way through traffic with quick feet.
WEAKNESSES
Presents a leaner build. Many of his plays occur when he’s unblocked; must prove he possesses the strength at the point of attack to take on NFL linemen if he expects to win one-on-one battles on blitzes or hold up against the run on the edge. Can also struggle to bring down stronger ballcarriers in the open field. Often leaves his feet before making the tackle, his speed and length make him effective bringing down FCS ballcarriers but he might lose those battles versus pro backs.
BOTTOM LINE
Pough is a tackles-for-loss machine, using his length and speed to chase ballcarriers from behind, as well as attitude to attack them in the hole. His tall, lean build and movement skills could make him a mid-round pick for teams looking for a coverage ‘backer or potential blitzing threat on the weak or strong sides of the formation.

Sounds great. But I've never heard of him before so I know nothing about him.

James Harrison will be accused of starting the bounty program again in NOLA if we sign him.
Only difference is that he will only include himself. He will have a jar next to his locker that says bounty program and he will make bets with himself to earn the money which he himself put in the jar.
