1. John Gilliam's 94-yard kickoff return for a TD against the Rams on the very FIRST play for the Saints....surely an event which will never be duplicated by another team.

2. Tom Dempsey's 63-yard NFL-record-breaking field goal to beat the Lions.

Yea, it wasn't like it is today with all of these different facemasks players have. Every time I see something similar, I think back to the City Champ.

Number two. (River City Relay)

I was at my my aunt's (by marriage) house in Chalmette on the carport watching the game. Her uncle was leaving when everyone started screaming. When he walked up everyone told him what had happened and he said, "I don't know what y'all are so excited about, they gonna miss the extra point." Sure enough they missed it, and on the way home on WWL Buddy D's monologue was epic about how the Saints always seemed to find a way to lose a game. Then the first caller said we should of went for two, at which point Buddy D called him a squirrel and hung up on him.

I smile every time I think about that, maybe because it reminds of Chalmette pre-Katrina, or because I think of Buddy D...Maybe a little of both.

Not sure what year...Vaughn Johnson literally taunted the 49ers into going for a 4th and short. Believe him and Mills stopped Rathman in the backfield on the play. Those old NFC West games were the boss.

Jerry Rice fumbled on the one yard line and they still gave him a touchdown.

Agree with your picks but will reverse the order

1. Tom Dempsey's 63-yard NFL-record-breaking field goal to beat the Lions in 1970.

2. John Gilliam's 94-yard kickoff return for a TD against the Rams on the very FIRST play for the Saints....surely an event which will never be duplicated by another team.

one of the earliest memories I have of a Saints game was Morten Andersen's FG that clinched a wild card birth in 1990. We were still out of school for the holidays. I think it may have been on New Years Eve. I'm pretty sure that it was a Monday Night Football game.

also remember Morten booting some insane kick vs. the Bears one year at the Dome. I want to say it was the year after the one I just talked about. I think it was like a 60 yard field goal, might have been longer.

That was an interesting game. It was between us and the Cowboys for the final spot (the NFL had just added the 6th playoff team format that season). ABC had a live remote set-up at one of the Cowboy's players houses as they watched the outcome.
We were up like 17-3 in the 4th and the Rams came back with a couple of late scores to tie it.

Steve Walsh drove us down and set Andersen up for the kick, which the 1st attempt was blocked.
However, the Rams were offsides and Morten got to re-kick and drilled it.

Good times!
