The Alabama fan who poisoned the iconic Toomer's Corner oak trees at rival Auburn has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Harvey Updyke Jr. pleaded guilty on Friday to criminal damage of an agricultural facility. The sentence requires him to serve at least six months in jail and spend five years on supervised probation for the Class C felony. He has been credited with 104 days already served
Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob A. Walker III also fined the former Texas state trooper $1,000. The probation terms include a 7 p.m. curfew and prohibit Updyke from going onto Auburn's campus or attending a college sporting event.

That seems pretty harsh. When it comes down to it, he poisoned a tree.
Sure, people loved that tree... but it's still just a tree.

A Legend.
Looking forward to the movie.
Who do you think should play him?
Philip Seymour Hoffman or Stephen Root?

that would have been a lot worse. I think people would have a totally different point of view if he had done that. But since he only poisoned them, no one outside of Alabama seems to give a shite
the guy could have gotten away with it but no, he had to go on a radio show that he took to seriously(just like Alabama football)and spill the beans. It must suck to be uneducated.

Geez, people murder their wives and husbands, claim insanity, and walk. He killed a fricking tree.
Trees > Ray Lewis.
Trees > Ray Lewis.

I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on that one. To me when it comes down to it he destroyed valuable property in a particularly crazy and malicious way. He deserves some jail time.

Wouldn't it just be fitting if he was put in a prison cell with one of the, or multiple, Auburn players? Dakota Moseley, Antonio Goodwin, Shaun Kitchens, and Mike McNeil would probably have some fun with this guy.

throw him in a cell with Leonardo Carson
that guy just doesn't care man. He beat the crap out of some guy at a used car lot in Mobile one time for no apparent reason. It was some older gentleman from what I heard, so Updyke would fit his MO.

Dumbass might have gotten away with it if he didn't call the Finebaum show.

oh, there is no doubt he would have.
I did a stint at Auburn in college and when I first heard the news, it saddened me for a number of reasons. I love football and the rivarly Alabama and Auburn has is a unique one. It just sucked that some uneducated rube did something so classless and refreshed a trashy image that I'm sure most people have on our state.
I've pulled some shite in my day too so don't get me wrong, but I only liked to screw over people who had it coming to them.
@ Rittdog, I'd give the role of Updyke to Brian Dennehy. He could pull of that ole southern booze hound obsessed football role well I think.
