Miami & Denver winning streaks show need for NBA contraction?

Miami's on their 25 game win streak and Denver's on the 15 game streak. Is this more evidence of the haves and have nots and the need for NBA contraction?

Part of the great part of the NFL is parity and the fact that almost every team has a chance to compete. And if not, the can rebuild in three or four years. Things the league has done to help this is free agency, franchise tags and salary caps.

The NBA seems to have a diluted talent pool and kills itself with guaranteed contracts. There are 9 teams with 25 wins or less and none of those teams will likely be in the playoff hunt next year either.

Is it time for the NBA to cut a few teams for the betterment of the game?

They need to get rid of these.

Did they need to do it when the Lakers set the record in the 80s?

71-72. And the league was extra diluted then because half the superstars were in the ABA at the time.

Still this is stupid. Does the fact that NFL teams go 15-1 prove that the NFL needs contraction? You ever heard of an NBA team winning 94% of it's games?

I've been saying for a while there should only be 24 teams.

I'm not sure this is the case. There is a lack of dominant big men compared to previous decades but there are a lot of skilled guards and forwards around the league

Are there some bad teams? Absolutely. But there kinda always have been in the NBA

I'd like it if a lot of those went by the wayside. Off the top of my head I think it would help if say no more than 3 years maximum could be guaranteed. Conventional wisdom is probably that the players union would and should fight that. But I think you could argue that an increasingly effective salary cap makes guaranteed salaries a bad deal for many players by the same logic that high rookie salaries were a bad deal for many NBA players.

The Patriots went undefeated a few years ago. Should the NFL have contracted then?

Not saying its the need for contraction, just more evidence that it might need to happen. Wouldn't it be better for John Wall or Kyrie Irving to play on a decent team? For teams like Utah or Orlando to keep their prized draft picks instead of watching them leave for better teams? To watch more competitive games/seasons rather than terrible or great teams like Charlotte and Toronto or Miami and San Antonio?

Wait a few years for the new CBA to kick in and you'll see more parity

Every pro league except the NFL should contract

I'm not saying the NBA shouldn't have fewer teams. I'm only saying your argument for why seems kind of ridiculous. NFL teams go on long winning streaks all the time. Streaks that last nearly their entire season in fact.

The NBA needs to go to a hard cap more than anything else. That would be the best way to cut out the "super team" bullshite and all of these superstars strong-arming their way onto big market teams.

Less than a decade ago, the Nuggets, Grizzlies, and Thunder would have been first-ballot candidates for contraction.

They didn't win a championship though. Pretty sure Miami will win it again this year.

Agreed, but less teams means that there's more talent to go around and at least a handful of "super teams", a handful of "really good teams" and the rest can still compete.

And I'm not saying its the reason, only a byproduct. Creating these "super teams" leads to these winning streaks which is just evidence of the leagues lack of parity/competition. Not the reason or the problem. Merely a sign of the problem.

Hard caps and no guaranteed deals hurt players so I will never support them.

The NBA needs an epidural prior to the contractions. Those things can be brutal...

What about when the Bulls went 72-10 one year and won 6 championships in 8 years?

The nba is so watered down now it's a joke. You could easily get rid of 4 teams.
