Willie's, which is in the old Crawfish Place building on Cloverland really cooks up some tasty food and has boiled crawfish as well. But, the place kinda looks like crap from the outside and still has old signage from when it originally opened as Mike Willie's.

I realize that Willie's is located on a side street and not visible to high volume traffic, but a little sprucing up on the outside needs to be done.

Thank goodness it's not painted Pepto Bismol blue like that ugly South of Philly place on Sherwood which is run by nasty arse ignorant people and I refuse to ever eat there again, but that's another story.

Anywho, you should give Willie's a try. Here's their FB page. Willie's Restaurant

What happened to Mike? Did he lose it in a divorce?

I haven't been since it was Crawfish Place which was underwhelming. I'll have to try it.

Not everything they cook is special, but a lot of things are.

I'll give it a lunch try. I'm always running up and down Airline but like you said its off the beaten path hence off my radar.

What about that other breakfast/lunch joint on Exchequer? Is it still around and how is it? I can't even remember the name of it. The one that the old man died a few years ago.

I think the name of it is the "Exchequer Restaurant"...It used to be Samuels and sadly, Sammy Dag passed away...I liked Sammy but I never really liked the food other than their breakfasts.

So when I heard the Exchequer Restaurant had pretty much the same food, I've never bothered to eat there.

You must really not like SoP to rip it in a thread you started about a completely unrelated restaurant.

I went to Willie's once...horrible "decor," kind of douchey owner, bad service sitting at the bar in an empty restaurant. The food probably would've been really good, except everything we had was ridiculously over salted.

Skillet, my friend, you are the Tom Fitzmorris of the BR food scene. We need to get you on AM radio. I can hear it now, "coming to you live from Chimes East, now here's the Pokie's red sauce laden voice of Skillet!"

Awesome food. Inside and outside aren't visually impressive but the food is great. Recommend the grilled shrimp sandwich on sourdough or the Beelzebub burger. I still call it Mike Willies, not sure what changed because the food is the same. I don't like how they no longer open on Sunday.

I agree. The parking lot sucks, too. But they make the best onion rings in Baton Rouge. I actually had a burger from there for lunch yesterday. Very good place to pick up food to go, but I have no interest in ever going there to dine in.

We've gotten takeout from there several times for lunch. The grilled chicken club and southwest club sandwiches are fantastic with the jalapeno sourdough buns. And their regular chicken fried chicken special on Fridays is a thing of beauty (go early).

I think someone posted here a while back that they'd bought some land on Coursey. LINK We asked and I guess the plan is to move there at some point. Maybe they'll be able to do a nicer decor building from scratch, but the food is definitely worth it.
