I've heard you can see it as far south as Iowa this week. Really active over the past 10 days or so.

Red aurora is my favorite. You could see red, green, white and purple in the video. Not often you see it last that long with that much variety. Lucky to see a couple hours, tops. It's still a freaky feeling weeing the lights dance in the sky like that.

You're a lucky SOB. I've seen alot of beautiful things in nature but the northern lights aren't one of them. Take some pics and post if you can.

That is awesome. I'm starting some of my own research on what it would take to move there. Any starter's advice?

Tons. The good, bad and ugly. Just keep in mind that every part, every city and town in Alaska is very unlike the others. Where you choose will be a very unique experience. What kind of interests do you have? What do you like to do? Work?

Hunting, fishing, chopping wood, cutting trees. I am absolutely not ready for Alaska. But trying to be self sufficient. Any advice you can give would be much appreciated. I plan on do much studies before I even consider such.

Have you ever considered an outdoor school? There are some really good programs that work with teams on survival and other outdoor skills. Something like the National Outdoor Leadership School.

The local college here even has an outdoor degree. Taking a summer course, or some kind of outdoor school would be a great place to start.
Another thing may be to work for a summer in Ak or in a national park doing tourist work, and exploring in your free time to get some experience.

Ya that's what I was looking for, thanks man.

Well then set an alarm for 2 hours after your normal bedtime. Get me some pics man. It'll save me a couple thousand travel dollars.
Actually AK is one of 4 states I haven't been to. I need to make it happen.

Isn't that hard to get here. Two hours north of Seattle and you are in the best part of the state...

Many people get their start doing seasonal or summer work in a tourist area. Yellowstone, Glacier, Yosemite, Alaska. There are about 8,000 summer jobs just in SE Alaska. Good place to start is coolworks

Appreciate it, again. I am going to look into that.
