The crown-of-the-helmet rule has also passed by a wide margin, I'm told.

They should just get it overwith. Give everyone a belt with two flags.

I do think that the game needs to change a bit in order to survive. (because of litigation, injuries, etc).

HOWEVER...this is just fricking ridiculous and completely impossible to officiate.

Remember all the hate Reggie got for running sideline to sideline and avoiding contact?? He was just a few years ahead of the game

Can't wait for Rugby to take NFL's place in the US as the tough guy sport.

a coupla days ago about this Ingram tweeted-

We bout to b playin flag football in the league soon!! No pads lol

Seriously, when Brees career ends I may seriously scale back my football fanning. I'm tiring of the ongoing pussification. It has been going towards more offense for decades. Now it is evolving to arena league or NBA endless scoring and games just down to has the last shot.

Teams are going to pass even more now.

Makes a lot more sense to go after Pass-Rushers and DBs.

well they can't possibly call this penalty every time it happens. Its just not possible.

the flag will fly if the runner hits with the crown of his helmet in the open field.

but between the tackles... not a fricking chance.

and since the defender can't launch himself into the ball carrier, this kind of levels the play field now.

i don't see how this will reduce injuries. Wont the runner be more vulnerable if he has to keep his head up as opposed to (the natural instinct) of lowering it? Seems they'll reduce one injury while increasing another?

This is actually what the rule states btw. Can't use your head as a weapon out in the open field. Think Earl Campbell running through people.

You can protect yourself at the line of scrimmage and protect yourself from hits but you can't use your helmet as a weapon anymore.

Why don't they just make the players sign waiters when drafted saying the league, teams and players cannot be help responsible for any injuries incurred during your NFL employment? They play a violent sport and are paid well for it. The players would sign it. The NFLPA would obviously fight it tooth and nail.

I'm seriously beginning to hate the product, if it wasn't for the Saints I would have zero interest in the NFL
