70's Cop Private Eye shows were way better than the stuff now. Fun stuff to watch didn't take themselves too seriously. Just a few.

Rockford Files, Columbo, Hawaii 5-0, Mcmillan and Wife, Cannon, McCloud, Baretta, Mannix.

Easily....EASILY

1956-1971
Not only for the types of shows, but the theme music and songs for the shows - incredible.

Just in this 15 year period, you had countless shows that are considered classics today, and are rerun to this day. Westerns, Adventures, Mysteries, Dramas, Sci-Fi, Horror/Melodrama,
Variety/Musical, etc.

These are just the COMEDIES from that period:

The Honeymooners
I Love Lucy
Hazel
Ozzie and Harriet
Pete and Gladys
The Donna Reed Show
Jackie Gleason Show
Father Knows Best
Make Room For Daddy
Leave It To Beaver
Dennis The Menace
My Three Sons
Andy Griffith
Dick Van Dyke
The Lucy Show
McHale's Navy
Gomer Pyle
F-Troop
Car 54 Where Are You
The Beverly Hillbillies
I Dream of Jeannie
Gilligan's Island
Bewitched
Green Acres
Hogan's Heroes
Petticoat Junction
Brady Bunch
MASH
Here's Lucy
All In The Family
Mary Tyler Moore
The Flintsones
The Jetsons
The In-Laws
The Odd Couple
Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In

Here are all the great Music Themes for the shows from this era 1956-71 - some are still considered classics today:
Bonanza
The FBI
Lassie
The Rifleman
Ben Casey
Death Valley Days
Perry Mason
Mission Impossible
The Virginian
The Twilight Zone
Alfred Hitchcock

Hawaii Five-0

Love that as I read through this people are using like 20 years as the golden age.

That is a LONG time folks. Why not just say "The golden age was from 1970-2013"

The one thing I think that makes people want to say this generation I think is all the TV Shows available. CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox have put out their share of quality shows on big networks as usual. However then CW appeared as another network that has put out some quality shows, then throw in cable channels such as AMC, FX, HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central, etc.

I mean this will all due respect, Metry, but "Motherf*cker, you ever heard of a show called 'Star Trek'?"

Nevermind - I realize you only intended to list comedies.

at self

And kudos for TOS in your great music list.

'87-'88 had several "One Season Wonders": "Frank's Place"; "Sledge Hammer"; "Slap Maxwell". All "Quirky", and very well done.

This is what CBS is now.

Are you still somewhat relevant? Has Hollywood abandoned you? Well look no further, CBS has a primetime sitcom just for you centered around one joke.

Thanks Ace...

You know when I was just starting to watch TV in the mid-late 60's, I actually liked "Lost In Space" better than Star Trek

Now "Lost' looks sooooo bad

My top three theme songs from that era:
Jonny Quest
The Virgininan
Mission Impossible
