Why is The Walking Dead so great?

I do not get why people love this show so much. I find it boring. I find it to be super overrated. Nothing ever happens and the zombies are so easy to kill it is laughable. I guess they got in on the zombie craze a few years ago while the getting was good.

I don't think it's a "great" show in a vacuum. Nor do I think the writing and acting in the show are "great". That said, it's entertaining for the most part and I'm so invested at this point I keep watching.

Because it's better than anything on the Networks. It has created a world which the average viewer finds interesting. People were tired of CSI, NCIS, Law and Order, etc. and looking for something new a different. Makes people wonder what life would be like if the Zombie apocalypse were to happen and if they would make similar decisions. At least that's what I think anyway.

Now a days anything that holds people's attention for more than 3 seasons is heralded as the greatest thing on television.
Heroes had a following like this and that burned out fast.

I've never liked Zombie movies at all, but there was a ton of buzz about this one and it was on NetFlix so I gave it a shot and the first season was actually pretty good. Lots of danger, mystery and excitement. The variety of characters and their interactions and conflicts were pretty good.
Have you actually seen Season 1 or are you judging this off of current episodes, because if you follow the in game threads there is much more disappointment than praise for Season 3. Don't assume a show with a weekly thread that goes 20+ pages is highly rated, there's usually a whole lot of bitching going on in threads like that.

Heroes first season is one of the best things I have ever seen on TV.
It went to shite after that. There was no way they could ever recapture that sense of discovery from the first season.

Still sad about this. I remember after Season 2 being like I hope this was an accident. 3 episodes into 3 I had to quit watching. It got really bad.

Yeah I gave season 2 a pass after the writers strike . So when 3 came there was a red carpet event and video blogs (just like the talking dead) unfortunately) the show didn't really get any better, coupled with Heroes burnout and unwanted merchandising.

It's not a great show by any means, but it's apocalyptic with zombies and gratuitous violence. It's an average show about something people find interesting.

It's not great. The show peaked in the very first episode and is dying a slow death
