As a gigantic F1 fan, I'd have to say NASCAR is probably the better sport. MUCH more competitive.
I prefer F1 and have maybe watched parts of 3 NASCAR races in my life, but the races are much more event-filled than a typical F1 race. F1 really comes alive in the rain. Dry races typically feature 3 or 4 good paces in the entire race.

F1 is trying to make the sport more competitive but its still hit or miss.

I have to say the Australian GP gives me a lot of hope for this season. Kimi and Lotus taking their first win (since reincarnation) and Lewis finishing strong in a mid-level team.
McLaren has really dropped off the last couple of years.

I would rate F1 as the best pure sport. Nascar may have closer races & more passing but that is somewhat contribed with all the cautions & pit stops shuffling the order throughout race.
In F1 the fastest car will usually win. There is probably more cautions in many Nascar races than an entire F1 season. If Nascar ran a whole race without cautions like most F1 races do, we would see larger gaps & less passes as well.
F1 has gotten more competitive & less predictable last few season. When I 1st started watching it was rare if Ferrari didn't win. Now there is Lotus, Mercedes, McClaren, Ferrari, Red Bull able to win GPs.

It's been all Redbull and all Vettel for the last few seasons.
We'll see what shakes out this season.

Kimi won a race last year.
F1 is the best sport and with the new tires might be the best to watch also. You will have races in which the top spots get decided early but 6-9 has been a shuffle in most races recently (ex. Monoco...don't watch Monoco).
I can't stand that NASCAR always has caution flags for every little thing. To me half the time winning a NASCAR race is pure luck. So like basketball turn it on late and watch the final few laps.
I also like the way F1 has the constructors title, I wish they pushed that angle harder in the coverage.
Indy Car sucks and I hate that it does. The new car is slow and looks dumb as shite. I long for the days of Champ Car aka CART.

Vettel didn't secure his title until half-way through the final race last year.
RBR did however kill the constructors title. If Massa stays decent Ferrari could pull it off though.

This is why I don't like F1. Whoever has the fastest car will almost always win. It's not competitive at all. There really is no point in having a field when there is just one or two cars dominating.
NASCAR is much more fun to watch because the cars are all about even, thus making it more important for you to have a good driver behind the wheel of the car and a good crew chief who can strategize effectively when it comes to pit stops and the like.

F1 has no margin for error...if the pit crew screws up one pit stop, your day is done. Start poorly and you'll be slogging it out in the pack with dirty air all day. A fast car can keep a lead and most of the time doesn't have to worry about a full course caution negating it.

The best sport is IndyCar road racing.
F1 is a technological showcase. No more than half the field has a prayer of winning because only a few teams can afford to continue developing their cars over the season. The increased unpredictability of recent years has come from artificial contrivances such as KERS, DRS, and Pirelli purposefully making crappy, unpredictable tires.
NASCAR and IndyCar oval racing suffer from being unable to avoid full-course cautions that bunch the field, but also oval racing is less about outright physical skill and more about car setup and getting lucky with tactics (pit timing relative to a full-course caution can completely make or break your race).
IndyCar road racing is the best "sport" because the cars are semi-spec, so even a lower-budget team has a chance to win a race. For example, Justin Wilson has been able to showcase his talent by winning with a low-budget team.
