Meh, he has a role and he plays it well enough. He's not world class but we pretty much suck in general.

Except when he's giving away free kicks right outside the box.

yeah, we suck, I hope we can get at least 1 point out of our remaining 8 WCQ's. After we dont qualify we should shut down the entire US soccer program and just stick to american football. /sarcasm

geez, this board must be on its period today

It's like this on most roster reveal days.

Even when 90% of the problems with the roster are completely out of Jurgen's control.

Exactly, it's not like Jurgy called in bornstein and these other plugs and just left Fabian and Chandler and co. at home... They're hurt or sick and can't play, out of his control, time to see if Jurgy has learned anything since the Honduras loss, we'll see!

Beckerman is slow but disciplined. In a choice between him or Jermaine Jones completing 13 total passes, picking up a ridiculous yellow card and royally screwing over our backline with his horrible giveaways, I'd take Beckerman's ability to complete a five yard pass and make a useful midfield challenge.

Bingo. Beckerdreads is a solid roleplayer and a good leader. Two things the team has been lacking recently. Seems like everyone wants to be the hero and no one wants to do the dirty work.

He's a more stable (and more skilled) version of Pablo Mastroeni.

Kyle Beckerman is the least of our concerns.

If Beckerman looked like a normal guy there would be far less bitching about him.

He's a mediocre holding mid. Mediocre holding mids don't usually get this much attention.

Is there any reason young guys like Cuevas or Villareal aren't going to be called up? Our outside play is lacking in both pace and creativity. I know you might not be the best person to ask... but, both of them appear to have some serious promise.

You can't not call up the team's weed man. Geez.

I played in college and every person on the team smoked. We used to smoke with the coach.

You could make a case for Villareal now (or at least very soon.)

I think Cuevas needs to play first team soccer before he gets a call up. He strikes me more as a "good for the age group" player.

Both of them will come in handy in the friendlies we schedule next spring to help other countries prepare for the World Cup.

True. Also, no way in hell I would rather have Beckerman on the field than JJ. Although he hasn't been quite as good for the US as he is for Schalke, he's miles better than Beckerman. And considering our mostly awful attacking lineup, he at least gives us a little unpredictability and quality going forward. He catches way too much shite from US fans, imo.

True, which is straight up dumb... If he was black with those dreads people wouldn't say shite.

Agreed, but as of recent I'd take Beckerman over Danny Williams at DM with Jones and Bradley ahead of him. Danny has been inconsistent lately for the usmnt, and Beckerman is a smart, technical defender who can get the job done.. also has experience and is known to be a leader. But damn't I'd be lying if I said he didnt lose us the Jamaica game
