Bergkamp in the Demi-God tier? LOL. God tier at the bare minimum.

Gerrard should be up at least one tier. As should Zola, Viera, Nesta, Kaka and Totti. Xavi and Pirlo should be in the same tier, so either Pirlo up or Xavi down, no real preference from me.

Eto'o should drop down a level.

There should really only be 3, maybe 4 tiers. Once you get to "Very Good," especially, exclusivity begins to become lost.

I'm indifferent to CR7, don't dislike him and far from a fanboy(I'm a Messi man myself) but IMO CR7 should be in the GOAT category...

Also, Scholes two tiers ahead of Gerard and Lampard?

Let me add:

Like most of these lists, it is top heavy with people who look to have played in the last 25 years or so.

I agree with poster who said Ronaldo should be in GOAT.

David Beckham "Very Good." When I didn't know jack fricking shite about soccer except that it was popular over seas, I knew who David Beckham was.

Apparently, if you play for Barca or with Messi, you are automatically granted "Very Good" status.

Popularity isn't really a deciding factor...

"Apparently, if you play for Barca or with Messi, you are automatically granted "Very Good" status."

Who are you even referring to? I would have to assume you're talking about David Villa. Xavi and Iniesta's place on this list can't even be questioned. And Villa isn't on the list because of anything he's done while at Barcelona. Other than that I don't know what you could be talking about. Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, and Eto'o certainly aren't there because they placed with Messi.

Scholes a demi-god? not buying it...

I also agree with the Iniest/Xavi statement above... I'm agreeing with the macho man...

edit:Also, where is Robbie Fowler in the God tier... afterall..

Xavi should be ahead of Iniesta. He's more important, and has been for longer. Iniesta is more talented but Xavi makes the team tick.

It doesn't take long to see that Iniesta is easily better than Xavi.

This is just something people say to make themselves feel smart.

No idea what you mean. Xavi does in fact make the team tick. He controls the tempo of the game like no ones else in the world right now.

I understand Xavi's importance, but it doesnt mean Iniesta is less important (see Messi) to the team... equal tiers at a minimum...

I just think because Xavi's been a central figure that has made Barca and Spain tick for as long as he has it justifies the higher ranking than Iniesta. But that's an issue with ranking active players IMO.

Xavi is also four years older than Iniesta.

Xavi and Iniesta also play different roles for Barcelona. Xavi dictates tempo as the deep lying playmaker. Iniesta floats in and out of attacking areas as he attempts to break through packed defensive lines.

I'm sure crazy4lsu will come in here to talk about the incredible value of Paul Scholes. I'll just say that it's hard to criticize a player whom Zidane refers to as the toughest player he ever faced. I don't think Xavi, Iniesta and Messi did any damages to their career when La Masia instruction focused on shaping these players' skills around those of Paul Scholes.

This chart is extremely subjective. Giggs and Scholes probably should be on the same tier. It's almost impossible to get into a GOAT conversation without someone mentioning George Best. Alan Shearer was a great striker, but David Villa's career features a similar arc with much greater achievements.

Xavi does not belong in the same tier as Gerd Muller. I expect people will disagree with this, but I have a hard time seeing Iniesta in the same tier as Rivaldo.

That's kind of my point, and why I mentioned that ranking active players has complications. People will look at it differently and value different aspects.

All of this. Scholes is a wonderful player. He retired from international play much too early. He was still England's best midfielder for a 5 or 6 year span after he retired.

I'm glad the list has Ronaldo in the GOAT tier. He was better than Maradona.
