Is there a hockey league bigger than the NHL outside of N. America?

The KHL isn't necessarily bigger, but it's probably the closest competition.

Not that I know of. The best players in the world all try and come the the States to play NHL. It's not like soccer where the MLS is basically a minor league compared to the English Premier League or Bundesliga in Germany.

No, the KHL and Swedish Elite Leagues are a definite step below the NHL.
