Cant think of a stranger cup of gumbo anywhere around BR. Its like they use a blonde roux or something almost looks like a cup a white beans when you look at it. But it manages not to taste awful. It just really doesnt look right. Could use less grease but if it cut the grease out and you close your eyes. Its not half bad.. Just odd.

The gumbo at each one is different. Where was this?

I enjoy the gumbo from the downtown location. Is it awesome? No, but for like $5 or $6 you can get full for lunch.

Thats what is odd about it.. You look at it and think WTF did they do to it.. Then you try it expecting the worse and it comes out decent.

Maybe its their way of making it taste better than it really is. They lower your expectations for it so much that you like it via enjoying the fact that it doesnt suck like you initially though it would

It came with the combo I ordered. They do have a pretty good deal. Jambalaya, side, crawfish pie and gumbo for 10 dollars. Enough food for a second meal.

I did notice that when I had their gumbo, that being said, I've never had a bad meal there.

A few times their jambalaya tastes like it had been frozen, but they swore that it wasn't...I like the gumbo most of the time.

Chet changed the way he makes his gumbo. Someone told me it was to save money or whatever. It is a lot lighter and thinner than it used to be.

I always get gumbo over jambalaya, or "gumbolaya", which makes it better. I complained, but he doesn't care--place still does crazy business.

I like the fried catfish there--thin strips. Very good.

Get the gumbo downtown over jambalaya rice. You'll thank me later.

My wife likes the gumbo on Perkins... I do to, regardless of color. Chet is a good guy too, caters for us on occassion. I am sure he would do his best to fix a problem, if its reasonable. Thats always been my experience.

Chet's a great guy.

But I can tell when he makes the gumbo. If the girl with the multi colored hair makes it (don't know her name) it's thicker and better tasting.

I just wish they could do a better job making jambalaya. I think they cook a batch over the weekend and continue to reheat it during the week. Until they figure that out, or they change their name to the gumbo shoppe, I think I will pass.

I love the gumbo from Government St location. Andy does a really good job. They're good people.
