Walter Football's Assessment of Bushrod Signing

Bears sign OT Jermon Bushrod (5 years, $36M; $17.7M guaranteed): Z- Grade
I can't take this signing seriously, so I'm not grading it seriously either. The fact that the Bears think they're actually upgrading J'Marcus Webb at left tackle by obtaining Jermon Bushrod is an absolute joke. In fact, I really don't think the front office has watched a second of Bushrod's tape.
Bushrod allowed tons of pressures every week. The reason his sack total was so low was because Drew Brees released the ball so quickly. Bushrod's sack numbers will increase exponentially as he's trying to block for Jay Cutler. That means Cutler will likely miss multiple games due to injury yet again. The Bears would be better off with Webb manning the blind-side position again. I find it so ridiculous that an NFL front office would pay so much money to a pedestrian player.

and not a single frick was given by ole Jermon
but yeah...for his sake I don't hope Cutler thinks his problems are solved

I think this is a very fair assessment. I understand 100% that Bushrod is a class act and great guy, but in no way was he worth this kind of money.

I love that site when it comes to the draft and college players, but some of their grades on these players are a complete joke. And I'm not saying that because of this Bushrod stuff. Sometimes they seem to be really biased against certain teams and players.

I agree with him in that they overpaid for Bushrod. I disagree, in that he is worse than Webb. At least Bushrod has been consistent, whereas Webb has not. Again, with Kromer going to Chicago, the point that the Bears have not watched Bushrod on tape is moot - Kromer has coached Bushrod for years.
Overpaid? Yes. As crappy of a signing as this article claims? Absolutely not.

Yeah I have definitely noticed that, however, they are more realistic than most other analysts.

I, too, disagree with the Webb comparison. Bushrod wasn't good, but he wasn't as bad as Webb either.

I'm pretty sure Sam Baker has been one of the worst LT's in football in his career in Atlanta, but they said Atlanta had to sign him back because he is Matt Ryan's blind side protector. Baker has been worse than Bushrod, but you wouldn't know it by reading their opinions of the 2 guys.

HERE is an even more detailed and scathing assessment of the signing. PFF equates Bushman as not much difference than J’Marcus Webb who he is replacing. They give Webb more upside than Bushdog.
We'll definitely be able to see how Brees improves the O Line watching Cutler behind the Bushdog.

The thing I don't get is that people are saying Brees made Bushrod look good, which is true, and that Cutler will be sacked a lot with Bushrod. How about this idea, Cutler should get rid of the ball quicker instead of holding on to it all day the way he does. Cutler's taking so many hits is from the way he plays. I'm guessing o-linemen hate playing with that guy because he makes them look awful.

^ Zach Mettenberger = Cutler in 6 years. Both of them are oblivious to pocket pressure.

Yeah. It just makes me laugh because everyone's solution is to blame the o-line instead of maybe ask that Cutler gets rid of the ball like the best qb's in football do.

Mett would be blessed to be in Cutler's position in six years.

Danny Woeful had one of the worst pocket clocks I've every seen wear the saints uni.
Its a skill even the best arm needs.
Marino and Peyton are two of the best that come to mind.
Some may find this interesting
Lowest Sack Percentage per pass.

I completely agree with this assessment. Not only does Drew have a quick release but he also has the best footwork in the nfl. When I saw this signing I texted my friend from Chicago and told him I hope cutlet likes concussions
