To give everyone else something else to do besides bitch about free agency, here is a list of what I will call the Top 10 Best Free Agent Signings in Saints History. Let me know if I missed anyone. This list is made with all due respect to Jonathan Vilma, Mike McKinzie and Jeremy Shockey who were all traded to New Orleans.
10. Bobby Hebert Signed by the Saints in 1985.
He played in 78 games and in Saints Franchise history, he is 4th in passing yards (14,630), TDs (85), completions (1,202) attempts (2,055) and 3rd in copletion percentage (58.5% w/ anyone over 500 attempts).

7. Bruce Clark Signed by the Saints in 1982 and played for us until 1988.
Interesting story, was the 4th overall pick in the draft, from Penn State, by the Packers, but he refused to play for them and went to the CFL for two years then signed with the Saints. Made a pro bowl team for us in 1984. Has 39.5 sacks for us which is 12th in franchise history.
6. Scott Fujita Signed with New Orleans on March 13, 2006.
Started 54 games for the Saints with 7.5 sacks, 4 interceptions and 246 tackles. And won a Superbowl for us.
5. Darren Sharper Signed with the New Orleans Saints on March 18, 2009.
Was only here for 2 years, but what a time he had with us. He started 18 games and had 9 interceptions with 376 yards returning them and 3 TDs. He also shares the record for longest interception return (99 yards). Was a 1st Team All Pro and made a Pro Bowl as a Saint.
And Chad didn't like that we signed him.

I think Lofton will be up there when it's all said and done.

I would put Sproles higher

I guess Brees was a pretty good pickup.

Probably. I think he needs a few more years and a defense that isn't absolute dog crap first.

Fujita was overrated imo. Popular because he was cool dude and he was white. Im white too btw.

Sproles should be higher
I think he needs another year or two here then he goes up the list. I gave a lot of credit for guys who were here during our Super Bowl run and/or hold franchise records.

Fujita was good. Our defense really fell off when he left.

And yet nobody likes you. Kind of disproves your theory doesn't it.

We haven't been right defensively since he left for the Browns after the Super Bowl. Add in Sharper leaving the year after, the void they left has been so apparent.

Sharper should be second IMO. Obviously Brees is the best, but without one of the greatest seasons for a FS from him, it's doubtful we get over that defensive hump. Dude had what , 9 picks with 5 of them for TDs?

2. Steve Gleason
On September 25, 2006, Gleason was responsible for one of the most dramatic moments in Saints history, when he blocked a punt by Atlanta Falcons kicker Michael Koenen early in the first quarter of a game at the Superdome.

No love for Shanle??
wasn't that a trade? not sure.
New Orleans Saints
Shanle was acquired in a trade with Dallas for a conditional draft pick during training camp and went to start 15 games at WLB, and led team with 77 solo stops, and his 117 total tackles and four sacks, a forced fumble and two pass defenses. In 2007 he played in and started in 14 games, and recorded 96 tackles (56 solo), a pass defense, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a tackle for a loss. In 2009, he was a starting outside linebacker on the Saints' Super Bowl championship team.

We actually had the 5th rated defense in 2010. I know that doesn't sound believable. They just couldn't force the turnovers that we had in 09, that's where a guy like Sharper is missed so much. We need a playmaker like him. With a great offense, we don't need a great defense. We just need a defense that can make a few big plays.
And I'll echo a few others on Sproles. I think he deserves to be a little higher. He was a steal.

7. Bruce Clark
When I was 10 I played at Delta playground on the Saints and we won the league championship. He was at the victory party and we all got to sit on his lap with our trophy and take a picture. Memories like that are just cool.
