Serious question.

Answers drawn from here

Picks Saints currently have:

1st Round
3rd Round
4th Round
5th Round
6th Round

Total: Going by his numbers in that thread it works out to $3,676,733 CAP for all 2013 picks.

BDuhon55's thread should've been stickied for this exact reason. He had a great breakdown of every figure

The link above is pretty handy. Generally you're estimating a full class to be close to $5 million. Obviously we are a couple picks short and more like $4 million.

And remember these 5 picks will replace our 5 lowest salaries of about $400,000 each. So you're really only talking about maybe a $2million difference by adding our draft picks.

I'd rather them save the money and rework either Graham and/or DLP's contract in order to get them locked down for the foreseeable future. Graham had a decent year last year, even with his injury. But if he shows up this year and plays like I think he will, he might command a higher rate next offseason. Same could be said about DLP - he's played well, but will probably look even better after this year.

If you offer to restructure their contracts now, they get the benefit of getting paid more this year. The have your money now option appeals to a lot of athletes, might be able to actually make a good financial decision now that could positively impact your standing later on down the road, especially with (potential) franchise players. That's just my fiscally conservative 2 cents.

Graham has franchise tag written all over him I'd imagine.

Only the top 51 salaries count towards the cap. So some of those 300K - 400K guys may not count towards the cap.

The Franchise Tag for Tight Ends this year is $6.0006 Mill.

All we have to do next year is cut Harper and, bam, there's the money.

This will likely go up with the quickness over the next five years.

Can't a team only franchise a player three times and they can't anymore? Graham is one of those players I'd want around for more than another 4 years. He's got Tony G. career potential.

Plus, the cost for the franchise tag goes up quite a bit each subsequent time. It really isn't cost effective to do this year after year. Most agents go after the contract because of the guaranteed money being that cushion for a player if he gets a career-ending injury. If you stick a player over and over with the franchise tag, they remember that when they are unrestricted FAs.
