Hunahpu Day 2013 - Cigar City Brewing, Tampa, FL

Hunahpu Day 2013 - Cigar City Brewing, Tampa, Florida. The day that Cigar City's most coveted release of Hunahpu's Imperial Stout is sold to the general public. Depending on who you choose to listen to the Hunahpu Stout is arguably among the best beers on the planet.
Well here are some pics. All said a very good time, but very chaotic and I'd say it was pretty clear to all in attendance that a new venue is needed.
We arrived at 0730 which was a half hour before the gates officically opened. At that time there were at least 800-1,000 people in line. By 0900 the line extended well over a half mile.
The first 4,000 peole that entered were given a wristband that allowed them to purchase up to 3 bottles. The next 1,000 were allowed to buy just one bottle and the leftovers are to be sold as a first come, first served basis.
We tried several beers including the Hunahpu, Funky Buddha Pineapple Hop Gun, Bold City Bourbon aged, Founders Imperial Stout, Three Floyd's Czech Booty Kamp Pilsener and Zombie Dust. All were $5 each for a 6oz. pour(bad show, very deceptive labeling on the prices). The place made a mint today but left tens of thousands on the table due to running out of tokens(had to have them in order to buy beers/merchandise) and from people unable to buy beers due to the long lines.
Some observations for those that might come next year. They were issuing bands to get bottles well after noon, I'm not sure showing up at the opening bell is necessary. There is little doubt in my mind that well more than 4,000 people were in attendance and had bands to buy bottles. The lines to buy beers are exceedingly long and very inefficient, bring your own beers! Car pool! The parking is terribly inadequate.
The line to get in..
The crowds...
The beers to try...
Need Jai Alai?
Mrs. Wiltznucs with a Hunahpu and a Three Floyd's Pilsener
Me with a hand rolled cigar that was rolled on site..
The nectar of the God's is finally released..
I exchange my wristband for bottles..
Hunahpu's Imperial Stout..

Sounds like a crowded good time. I assume the Limitted stuff that makes it on tap dissapears before you can even jump in line?
So did you get six bottles with your wife being there an all?
Eta: tteettuu23@gmail.com if you want to set something up.

Yep, a lot of stuff disappeared before I could get a shot at it. There was an apple brandy brew I really wanted to try that got gone in a hurry. The lines were ridiculous, unless you were wiling to cut in line you were looking at an hour at least.
I did get 6 bottles and one of which I'll get your way. Shoot me an email..

Well despite the lines, at least you got to spend a day with craft beer enthusiasts and came home with half a case of one of the best beers in the world.

those are some sweet Oakleys broh and I would kill for that cigar hand rolled. I would not wait in line like that for any beer ever made but looks like you made the best of it and scored some good take home nectar

I've got a few acquaintances going this evening in hopes of snagging some of the leftovers. Once I get a handle on how many bottles they have I may get you lined up.

Improv Oatmeal Rye India-style Brown Ale, Cubano-style Espresso Brown Ale, and Jai Alai are appear to be very nice
Guava Grove Farmhouse Ale might be most intriguing for summer drinking

The Improv is underwhelming and a lot of folks like the Jai Alai but the citrus taste is too much for me. I should be able to track most of those down, let me see what I can do...

Always open to suggestions, even non-CC

Holy shite, I am glad I didn't go. Couldn't handle that big of a line.
Nice haul.
Going to have this bad boy tonight, waiting for my home brewed IPA to finish

Have you heard anything about their "locker Club" that they may be starting? Something similar to Bruery's Reserve Society.

A few corrections to the OP:
I arrived at 5:15am and was about 250th in line. The line was around 1200 deep by about 7am. Home Depot complained about the line wrapping into their parking lot off Spruce St, the cops showed up and told CCB to deal with it or shut down the event. So they opened the gates early to get people moving.
The beer pours were supposed to be $5 for either an 8oz or 12oz pour with the smaller pours being reserved for the more limited beers. Of course, the outside event staff that CCB hired to pour beer was absolutely clueless, so the 8oz pours ended up being 5-6oz of beer with way too much head. The 12oz pours ended up around 8oz. I know this becaue I brought my pint snifter to transfer the beers to, and upon ordering two 8oz cups of the same beer (Humidor Dry-Hopped DIPA, for example), I only had about 12 oz of beer in my snifter. I got lucky and actually got proper pours a couple of times.
The people with the lesser wristbands (after 4000) were allotted two bottles of Huna, not one. My uncle's friend showed up ~3pm and got a 2 bottle band.
The only benefit of showing up when we did was a close parking space. They had plenty of bottles left over, so if you got there at 6pm you could buy a case of Huna with no wait if you wanted to.
The lines to get beer were stupid long. The main CCB trailer line was stretched through the entire parking lot all day and moved VERY slowly. You were looking at a two hour wait for the bulk of the day 9am-2pm if you got in the back of the line and actually waited your turn. My chair was right next to those taps, so I had a clear view of the chaos. The wait was a little shorter at the CCB Bus in brewhouse #1 (~one hour), but they had a very limited selection.
Also, the biggest cluster of the day was running out of Huna bottles at the first pickup location at ~2:30pm. People waited in line for over an hour to get their bottles, only to be told that they were out of bottles in that location and they couldn't bring any bottles through the crowd because the fire Marshall would not allow it. Those people were then all told to get at the back of the line at the other pickup points. They were pissed. Luckily, I was just getting a pour in brewhouse #1 when the guy made the announcement, so I knew to avoid that station for bottles.
This was my third Hunahpu Day, and overall it was the worst of the three. I don't think the crowd was much larger than las year, but the beer was pouring extremely slowly and the lines were unbearable. In my opinion, the following would make the event much more enjoyable with the number of people that are showing up:
1. Get a bigger venue. The Raymond James parking lot is an idea. It's close to the brewery and has plenty of room for parking and festivities. Only issue could be cost, but:
2. Make it a ticketed event. Charge whatever you need in order to cover facilities costs, and don't sell more tickets than you are able to accommodate.
3. Have more beer dispensing stations! They had plenty of beer, but not enough access points to actually get pours. I'm fine with waiting in line, but if it takes longer than 20 minutes to get a pour, then something is wrong. An hour and a half to two hours is completely unacceptable.

Yeah... That doesn't exactly sound like a fun day for me.
Probably similar feelings that Geauxldmember has for Dark Lord day.
Damn.
