Has he broken any skin? This could be a corrective behavior if he doesn't have an alpha over him. You need to establish yourself as alpha and then discipline him when he acts that way.

We are talking and just realize that this didnt start until after he got treatment for heart worms over the summer. Put him on ivomec after that as well. Could that be it?

Thought that a possibility as well but was practicing with him yesterday and was hearing and listening to the whistle 100+ yards out and was seeing the dummies.

re: Dog starting to become aggressive out of nowhere

Who else uses Ivomec and how much do you use? I was told a tenth of a cc per 10 lbs of weight so I give him a little less than 1 cc, he was between 90-100 lbs depending ion the time of the year. According to that site they recommend a third of that, please tell me a tenth for 10 lbs is correct and I am not killing my dog?

I'm by no means a vet and won't pretend like I know what kind of medicine to give. I would however take him to the vet before my next dosage

re: Dog starting to become aggressive out of nowhere

Had him at the vet two weeks ago, checked out fine besides biting the vet. I wasnt there however. Had him on what the vet recommended and he got heart worms, cost me a arm and a leg for the treatment, thats why I switched to ivomec. I know tons of guys who use it with no problems.

Look I'm not a specialist but if I have a fun loving friendly clipped 4 yo lab that goes bat shite crazy when I give him poison I'm going to quit giving it to him. It's either making him sick or messin him up in the head. There are other options. If you've considered getting rid of him then surely you'll consider switching his heart worm medicine.

What did the vet say?

I ask that because I took our cat to the vet about ten years ago and the cat bit through the thick animal handling gloves and drew blood from the vet. This was just the examination. Vet said we couldn't bring the cat back. This was a completely domesticated cat that sleeps right beside my head every night. She don't take nothing off people.

I never said I wasn't going to switch his meds, actually said I was and was asking for other options bc the shite the vet gives doesn't work.

Was asking it to the board, not anyone in particular.

Fair enough. I hope he recovers. I hate to see a dog go down hill at a young age.

It's probably not the Ivomec. But the stuff they actually used to treat him could of messed him up, that stuff is strong. Plus the worms did permanent damage to his heart even if it was a mild case.

re: Dog starting to become aggressive out of nowhere

You are correct on the ivomec dosing, it's 0.1 cc per 10 lbs. You really have to dose the hell out of them for it to bother them, I had two beagles with the red mange, gave each one a half cc everyday for a month, cured it and no side effects. I've had all kinds of dogs on ivomec from beagles to American bulldogs and never had a problem with it. In the end it is a dog that is biting you...may be time to go cootkillah on it.
