So, with Red Snapper season quickly approaching, I'm trying to wrap my head around the new rules and boundary. I've found the LWLF website with their maps, but it's going to be tricky to use that offshore.

What I'm wondering is if anyone has seen any new nav charts with the revised line. This would be much more helpful and accurate than the rudimentary map they have provided. If all else fails, I may have to see if any of our GIS guys could help me out.

It's my understanding that they will be coming out with a better map. Otherwise I'd stay within 7.3 miles of the old line.

I've been searching for something I can work with but haven't found anything. I just pulled the coordinates of some areas I want to fish and located them on the LDWF map you linked.

There will be a trickling of information over the next few weeks on how all of this (Snapper season, State v. Feds) will play out. Capt ST will keep you posted and I'll do my best as well.

From my understanding, the Feds haven't decided on a season and there may not be a federal season. May not be true though

As in no fishing for snapper at all, or will there be no season and we just return to size and creel limits?

As in Feds pissed with the state's mutiny and they won't open the federal waters. May not be true tho

Could very well happen, but not likely. In the short term, this might piss off alot of people, but in the long term, I think enough people will be pissed off to really make waves in this issue.

If the dumb bitch representing FL would have stood her ground and not let the Feds squeeze her during the closed door meeting and switch her vote after lunch we'd be sitting in a much better position. As would FL since the voted to go noncompliant shortly after the GC meeting.

Is there a chance the Feds will shut it down? Absolutely. Am I willing to fall on the sword this season if this will lead to some legitimate changes in management of red snapper? Yes I am. But enough is enough. This fish should be the poster child for fisheries management working and somehow the Feds have managed to frick this up too.

Unless there are Fed boats sitting at the line, I don't know how they can enforce this...aside from the knuckleheads keeping snapper 30 miles out.

Hopefully this gets them back to the table and opens up some meaningful dialogue. There's a hell of a chess match going down behind the scenes right now.

I recently spoke to a green jean off the record who said something similar. GJ seemed to think it's not over yet.

This is my impression, too. I have never seen federal enforcement out there, but maybe that changes. Do they even do that or count on local agencies? Do LWLF agents bust their arse trying to prove you ran afoul on 1 snapper when the state allows it? There are a lot of questions left to be answered.

My guess is that LWF will be giving subtle clues on how they will be handling over the next few weeks. they don't want to appear as of they are not enforcing the laws, but they also want to stand and appear non-compliant for the people.

I'll be happy to take my ticket if they catch me in fed waters

I don't think this is accurate. They are not in the business of making/pushing policies. As an agency, their focus will be on enforcing the law. Now, individual agents are all different, and they are going to be in your boat.
