So many to choose from, but most of George Jones has to be on the short list. He Stopped Loving Her Today has got to be near the top.

Gordon Lightfoot has some tear jerkers too. If You Could Read My Mind is a very emotional song.

Sorry no link. Phone post.

To me, the saddest songs I can think of involve the feeling of hopelessness. This had me in tears when I saw the play at the Kennedy Center in 1988 and still does:

Was coming to post this.

"Well your old love letters
Well I just can't keep
Cause like the gambler says
Read em and weep"

Don't rescue me
No more
And the rain
Falls down
On my door"

Kids dying.

Baby Blue. George Strait

Tears In Heaven. Eric Clapton.

All of My Love. Didn't Robert Plant lose a child? I am not certain but think that I recall hearing that.

Mine's a tie between "Tears in Heaven" by Clapton and "The Living Years" by Mike and the Mechanics.

Interesting enough, Paul Carrack (singer of "The Living Years") is playing keyboards on Clapton's current tour. Maybe the they'll do a twofer.

That one has always gotten to me. I had an older father, and now have a son. I can't watch the video if others are around.

The #1 though is This Woman's Work by Kate Bush. It's played in a tough scene from She's Having a Baby. My wife went through a very problematic pregnancy. Watching that scene with that song playing breaks me down every time.
