Delta Amex vs. Blue Sky Amex

I've had the Delta Amex for a couple of years (my first credit card). The $95/year membership is more than worth it for the free checked bags and zone 1 boarding. Unfortunately, Delta has lost their minds at DCA (paging Bacon) and I haven't been able to find flights to MSY for less than $475 for a while now, which seems a bit ridiculous. I have at least 6 more flights to book before the end of 2013, and I'm wondering if it's worth it sticking with Delta.
I travel a lot so I do like having a card where I can accrue travel rewards. I'm also happy with amex and would like to stick with them. I was just wondering if any of y'all out there have the Blue Sky card and if you're happy with it. Pros/cons, etc?
Of course, another thing holding me back from making a switch would be closing out a credit card and it negatively affecting my credit score.

I have Cap One Venture Rewards card
(2 pts per dollar spent) and I like it a lot. Drawback is not having the free check bags and better boarding like with the airline cards.
I find Delta, you just have to keep an eye on it, usally best about 3-4 weeks out

Even though as of right now I'm just racking up points, I can't get over the possibilities of how awesome this card will be for travel, since I should be able to get 40,000 points a year on my spending alone, and probably another 20,000 (conservative estimate) or so on top of that once I add my SO to it.
Plus, I just realized the purchase eraser does let you split up airline tickets apparently. So if you buy two tickets in one purchase, you don't need the whole amount of points to cover the whole purchase. You can split it to one ticket and cover that one and pay full on the other.

I have the blue sky preferred. It is a $75 dollar fee (I think) and you get $100 statement credit annually for airline fees. I live in Houston and got it for the flexibility of using the rewards for any travel purchase. I have also been 100% satisfied with Amex

Gate swap at DCA with US Airways...

yeah :(
In 2011 I was flying Delta RT DCA to MSY for $225-275. US Air was the one running at prices in the $400s. Then they gate swaped in 2012 and prices to NOLA went up big time.

US Air may have to give some of those gates back as they go through the anti-trust process

If you do keep on with Delta upgrade to the platinum. You will no longer get the companion pass with the Gold card (I think the companion pass is worth the Extra $55). I have noticed fairly flights to BTR recently from United to DCA.
I don't fly to NOLA unless its a wedding but everyone I know who does typically flies U.S. Airways. I would consider getting the U.S. card for the year . If you do end up doing that you may find this helpful LINK
Consider yourself lucky though... $500 is the best I can ever get going into SHV & the average price is around $700
ETA: If I were looking for a new Airline I would strongly consider American

Post-merger and the removal of their MD-80's, certainly. Right now? Not a chance.

Well I only have the Option between Delta, American, & very limited on United.
I would consider it... But Delta has always treated me right and I like the sky club too much to change to a new airline

Bacon how do you like the platinum Amex? They keep reminding me I'm pre approved for the upgrade. What are some of the big differences between the 2?

I liked it so much I ended up upgrading from the platinum.
To my knowledge there are only 2 differences:
1)You get the companion certificate
2)Spending Thresholds to earn MQM's
a)Spend $25,000 in a calendar year get 10,000 MQM
b)Spend another 25K and get a total of 20,000 MQM

Bacon, I literally just found out a new benefit of the Delta Platinum Ames last night.
You get automatic Gold Preferred with SPG holding this card.
ABSOLUTELY HUGE PERK.
Check out the new Crossover rewards program and you will know exactly why this is such a big deal.
I am about to switch back to the Delta Platinum for this reason alone.

Gold with SPG correct? I don't understand why they would do that. AMEX has a SPG card

There was a front page article on Delta in yesterday's online version of USAToday talking about the scam Delta is running with its frequent flyer program, SkyMiles.
I realize this is only tangentially related to this thread but if one of the reasons you're sticking with the Delta card is to accrue more SkyMiles, you might want to go back and read that article.
It says Delta is misleading its frequent flyers by telling them they can book RT domestic flights using miles for only 25,000 miles but actually Delta rarely reserves free seats for that amount of miles.
They only offer free flights which cost a "premium" amount of miles, like 40,000 or 50,000 miles.
Delta did not deny that they were not offering any 25,000 miles free seats on many flights.

I've booked 5 roundtrip tickets using skymiles since 2009. Only one time did I not get a 25,000 mile ticket and that was to fly home during the Christmas holidays.
I got 2 for 25,000 miles to NOLA for the 2011 BCS MNC... I wish I could have those 50,000 miles back though

This has been going on for a few years now and all of the major airlines have been doing it. DL is probably the biggest offender, though. That being said, miles = $$$.

You'll find that with any credit card rewards program compared to years past IMHO

Gold Preferred with SPG. The quote from agents from both SPG and from AMEX: "Yes, any Platinum card with AMEX results in SPG Gold Preferred, including the Delta Platinum AMEX".
