Abita Spring IPA & Bayou Teche Saison d’écrevisses - First tries this weeekend

Tried the Abita Spring IPA at Chimes yesterday. Not bad, but not great either. Is what it is. Abita still makes my favorite LA beer (Oyster Stout), but the Spring IPA is like the majority of their line, just ok. I know many here say they're horrible. Maybe I just have still a soft heart because it wasn't that long ago they were the only Louisiana craft beer I could find in Acadiana grocery stores.
Tried the Bayou Teche Saison D’écrevisses (crawfish beer) Friday. Their brewmasters classify it as a farmhouse style ale. I found it to be very good. In fact, is my new favorite of their line of beers (Acadia and Mardi Gras used to hold that spot). It is, in my opinion, pretty unique in its taste compared to anything else LA breweries have done thus far, though I know we're anticipating Parish's Farmhouse IPA.
I've always supported Bayou Teche, just like I like to buy Parish's beers, because they are local. However, Teche's beers always seemed to have sort of a weird "metallic" quick aftertaste. I find that turned many people off, especially those who are usual BMC drinkers. However, this new crawfish season beer of theirs did not have the weird aftertaste. In fact, it finished very damn well. One of my Top 3-5 favorite LA brews now.
I would recommend the Bayou Teche Saison d’écrevisses. The Abita Spring...only if your other option is Carona or Bud Light.

I bought a 6 pack of the Spring IPA Friday night and have enjoyed it. It's much better than I remember the Jacamo tasting.

The new Abita IPA is right in the middle for me as far as IPAs go. I have had better and worse.

Abita used to be the next best thing to sliced bread. Once they got mainstream it became really cool to hate them. Just drank some SOS, Purple Haze, Jockomo, Turbodog, and Amber and Andy Gator this week.
SOS and Jockomo or pretty bad IMO
Purple Haze is tasty
Amber and Turbodog great beers at a good price.
Andy Gator is pretty good
Christmas ale is shite like Jockomo and Mardi Gras Bock is pretty good IMO. Golden Ale is crap.
Point is they make some really quality brews and get hated on because they are "mainstream."
Strawberry is delicious.
Flame away!

Abita Spring IPA
It was alright. I'm not a big IPA person but figured I'd give it a try. Whatever that aftertaste flavor is...I just can't get over. It's too....tang I'll say

Um, they dont make quality brews, the make average brews, thats why they get hated on.
Years ago it was literally the best option in la, now so many better beers are distributed here.
Abita is a gateway beer.

Hasn't this Abita shite been beat like a dead horse enough lately? Everytime someone post a review about an Abita product that isn't a glowing review now, we have to have the lame arse post about people not like Abita now because they are mainstream.
Google Abita and Tigerdroppings to get a feel for the threads. There was a very long one last week and I think everyone got the point out pretty well. At least people who understand beer did anyway.
There is little to no "hate" on Abita. Quit making that up. Abita has the resources to do soooo much more at a better quality level than they do. That is pretty much the gripe.
Alot of their beers are average to below average and that is a fact. A few are good.
Thank you Abita for introducing so many to beer better than the BMC products that dominated our market for so long. Thank you Abita for being a major sponser for so many community events.
Now go take some chances and make some better beers.
