re: Do I have to go with Becker for CPA studies?

The problem with that is AUD changes after June. So if you don't take and pass audit before then, the book you get won't cover all the new material. The questions won't have the new material either. Find someone that is taking Becker and has everything for 2013. See if you can pay them to download the videos and questions and all to your laptop.

I used Yaeger and supplemented with Another71.com notes and freecpareview multiple choice questions.

That worked well? I really want to slam dunk the CPA because I slacked off in college.

How would you describe your study style?

My experience is with Yaeger and Becker. From my experience, Yaeger is suited for people who are organized, self-motivators. Becker does a little more "hand-holding" when it comes to their study plan which is why I think it fits my study habits better. I'm sure some people might disagree but that is my opinion on it. With that said, it all boils down to your dedication and focus.

re: Do I have to go with Becker for CPA studies?

I took and passed with Becker 4/4 over about 6 months before I started my job (paid out of pocket). Here are my thoughts on CPA reviews:

Becker is the most well-known, it is also the most expensive, which is largely due to agreements with large CPA firms which buy high-volume. I believe that the success of the Becker Program has a lot to do with the candidates themselves;that is, the best candidates who are most serious about passing the exam the first time go with Becker, because of its reputation and it being so high-cost. I would argue that these candidates would do well with any review program, as they are willing to put the time in to pass the exam. The less expensive and less time consuming options are better options for those that are less serious, such as industry accountants that would like to be CPA's to build their resumes, but not a requirement to do their jobs.

In short, if you are serious about passing and willing to put in the time, go with whatever you feel can help you pass (like Yaeger or Rogers). But Becker is certainly as good as any for preparing you, although I don't believe the quality quite represents the cost.

Good luck

I'd agree with this if your'e unemployed or are a staff or something, but once you're a couple years deep into public accounting, time becomes a precious commodity.

That is pretty much my point.

I was basically referring to industry accountants specifically. In public accounting, being licensed is required to do your job, or get promoted, not to mention a CPA bonus.

I would think in a job where there is less incentive to pass, one would purchase a cheaper program, have less drive, and lower the pass rates for that particular study program. I assume that those that have the greatest drive to pass, will purchase the most expensive, and most acclaimed, program which bolster pass rates. Essentially, I am saying that it is all about drive to pass, and not so much about study material.
