Never criticize anyone for their news source, if you are getting it from Maddow

Government spending was NOT needed. And basically, the "President" allowed the stimulus to become baseline spending. Why hasn't the deficit been lower than $1.2Trillion? Why did the stimulus become part of baseline spending?

We will just disagree about TARP. It was needed and turned out well as opposed to the alternative. The core problem remains though. The large banks are still "too big to fail", which still encourages excessive risk taking due to a safety net they know has to remain. Dimon almost implied as much in some comments yesterday.

Why hasn't Obama and his career government worker buddy Timmy Geithner addressed this? Riddle me that.

And why not just nominate a guy who has no experience doing anything in the business world, Jack Lew, while we are at it....oh wait..

The deficit right now IS lower than the deficit in 2008. National debt is higher because we still have a deficit.

This of it in terms or your own finances. You were 1,000 dollars in debt in 2008 and were spending 50 dollars more than you made per year (putting you in more debt) In 2012 you were still in debt (say $2,000) but doing just a little bit better. You only spent 30 more dollars than you made.

Do you get disability for being clearly addle minded?

quote:

here's a link that talks about the projected deficit dropping to $845 billion, I know you guys will probably freak out that it's Rachel Maddow but she is citing a CBO report, and quotes directly from it. The graph also shows the deficit shrinking under Obama.
Just as I thought, the entirety of the FY09 budget deficit is attributed to Bush even though the Democratic controlled House and Senate refused to pass his budget, refused to negotiate with him, and waited for Obama to get elected before passing his one and only budget.

quote:

The federal budget deficit in 2013 is projected to be $845 billion, the first time the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has forecast a deficit below $1 trillion under President Obama.

Under $1 trillion, holy hell Obama is amazing. How did he ever manage to achieve the very feat that every single President in our nations history has managed to do? And it only took him 5 years to get the budget deficit down to, a projected, $845 billion, my word let's just make him king for life. With a record like that, who would argue?

I don't even know what the frick you are talking about anymore.

If you call going from a $1.5 Trill deficit to a $1.2 Trill deficit, yes, that's improvement, but nothing is really better.

The deficit in 2008 was $1T which was twice as much as any other year under the Bush administration. It has been higher every year since. Now, maybe this year it will be lower than 2008, but that just means the best year of Obama's deficit is slightly better than Bush's worst.

Arguing that the deficit is headed in the right direction under this administration is like a college kid arguing to his dad, "dad you should be proud, I pulled up my F- to and F+".

The deficit and debt ARE two different things!!!

Debt is how much we owe, deficit is the difference in revenue and spending. Deficit builds debt. The last time we had a surplus (which shrinks debt) was under Clinton. Bush wiped it out within 2 years.

Gumbo pot you just posted an awesome link.... You just proved everything I've been saying. The grey line where the uptic starts, at the end of your graph, is when Obama took office. Up is a good thing on this graph. Thanks

Here is another way of looking at it:

Bush deficits per year:

2001-2008 ($4.35T) = $543B/year

Obama deficits per year:

2009-2012 ($5.99T) = $1.5T/year

Doubling the annual deficit and then working to knock that down. That's one way to go about it, I guess.

Congratulations to the president for a projected budget deficit that's lower than the 2008 one and only 67% higher than the 2007 one.
