I'm a casual fan of the series and enjoy the story line and just appreciate the character of Anakin Skywalker. I just don't understand why hardcore fans hate the prequels.

Lucas' hamfisted writing coupled with hayden christiansen's horrific acting make them easy to hate.

i LOVED the idea of the prequels when the came out and even went to the midnight showing. it sucked. then i though well maybe the next one will be better. nope. the third one was the best of the three but still that's by comparison to a turd sandwich and a giant douche.

Episode 1- bad writing and jar jar binks

Episode 2- hayden christiansen

I really like the 3rd one. No complaints.

Some of the dialog and acting is painful to watch. I don't necessarily mind the overall story, but young and older Annakin sucked. Their acting was atrocious and the dialog was truly horrible.

I hate Phantom Menace but I can watch the other two.

What was HC supposed to do with no direction and a bad script?

And if you like the 3rd one, then the joke is on you.

I was digging the 3rd one up till the end. The whole "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" line made me vomit. Are you kidding me?

I don't hate them but all three are behind the first three in terms of every category. Phantom Menace was a let down due to the build up for big fans of the first films. Attack of the Clones wasn't very good because it revolved around the love story between Padme and Annakin and they had no chemistry at all so it was borderline comical. Revenge of the Sith was the culmination of people wanting to see Annakin become Vader and it just missed due to poor acting and they tried to cover it up with a big ending battle.

I didn't like Jar Jar but I hate when people whine about it. He was essentially the first three movies' Chewie. Kids loved Jar Jar for the most part like we loved Chewie in the first three.

I think I'd take the 3rd one over Jedi.

The Phantom Menace was comically bad. A couple friends and I went to the 3D re-release and it was just awful and I didn't really understand the hate when it first released because I was young. I can't imagine waiting years for a new Star Wars movie and then getting that turd

This is the problem. Lucas set out to make kids' movies so things like story and acting weren't as important.

The problem was trying to do prequels instead of carrying the series forward. There is a whole universe in place that they could have pilfered stories from and he chose to go into a no win situation. He could have let the animated series do the back stories, they do them well, while he pushed the story forward.

On a side note, one of my favorite Star Wars scenes was on the animated series a couple weeks ago. Emperor took on Maul and Savage dual wielding lightsabers like a pimp. It was a great scene.
