Go about halfway down the article.

LINK

If you don't understand why people hate ESPN now, there you go.

"We will talk about the spectators in critical condition later. But first, but it's much more important for you to know about the 36th place finisher."

The only thing worse than ESPN is NASCAR.

I started a thread about Danica some time ago asking WTF was the obession with her, and I pointed out how she is probably the shittiest Nascar driver in the history of the sport...and I got shelled

I pay exactly zero attention to Nascar, but my impression is that Danica is basically the Anna Kournikova of racing. Is that about right?

I think Kournikova at least won a match or two in her day, I don't think Danica has a top 15 or 20 finish

At this point you are correct. She may turn out alright but she hasn't earned the press yet.

Danica Patrick makes Anna Kournikova look like Martina Navatrilova.

Any interview I've seen with Danica, she appears "slow." Is she an intelligent person? If so, she surely doesn't show it.

I give her credit for getting the pole at Daytona (obvious joke unintended). But she CANNOT drive when other people on the track.

She's the WR that ran 4.3 at the combine but can't catch a pass.

My issue with Danica isn't that she doesn't get results (she's hardly the first person to be in NASCAR without earning a thing), but she acts like a spoiled brat. Last year she tried to intentionally wreck Landon Cassill and ended up destroying her car instead. Sure, NASCAR has plenty of intentional wrecking but not for 28th position.

There are at least 75 other drivers who would have won the pole in that car. A plate pole only indicates how much money she has backing her, not anything about her driving talent.

Danica had one IRL win in her career in that series, which was at a race in Japan. I don't think she even had that many top 10 finishes in IRL.

Serious question: Does anyone regularly get the pole without a bunch of money?

Nobody of any significance raced in that Japan race. It was like beating the Heat without LeBron, Wade, and Bosh.

Everybody says "she was winning the Indy 500 that year." Yeah, because she didn't pit and was subsequently smoked in the final laps.

But Hendrick has 5 MUCH better drivers and just as much money, and she got the pole over them..

And I am NOT defending her.

I'm of the opinion that there was shady behind-the-scenes business that allowed her to get the poll and increase the hype leading up to it.

I didn't say that she has the most money, but that she definitely has a well funded team. Often times the cash cows (Paul Menard for example) don't get the best equipment or crew because they will bring in the sponsorship regardless of results. Teams throw more resources behind the successful drivers. No doubt, her team circled Daytona Q'ing because they knew she could make a big splash there. I doubt Hendrick's 4 teams put nearly as much effort into qualifying because it means almost nothing once the green flag waves. I'm not attacking Danica, but people that think her pole at this track means anything about her as a driver clearly don't follow the sport. I'll be much more impressed if she finishes top 15 in the next few races after Daytona.
