I know the value is predicated upon who is still available at the time of the pick. What would be the best that the saints could do here? Is it possible for the saints to get a lower 1 and pick up a 2 by trading their 1st and another round/player? Would there be enough time for the saints to work up some sort of elaborate deal if someone comes calling later near the time of the pick?

I'd love to trade back, I think we need as much new blood on defense as we can get.

they generally have a gameplan set for trades back- who is available here, who later, what would it take, etc

draft pick value chart

cool draft pick calculator where ya don't have to do the math

To me any of Jones, Mingo, or Jordan are the slam dunks. prolly disappointed with a trade back and any of them on the board. Them all gone and have at it.

So by that chart we could definitely pick up a 2nd.

everyone says this is a draft without a lot of stars but with a ton of depth. If that's the case, no better year to do this than this one.

Hot damn, that's insane. Is there REALLY that much of a difference between #1 and #32? #1 always seems a bit inflated because whoever is picking there HAS to pick based on NEED. Not just need but an ABSOLUTE NEED. I.E. A QB or RB.

In short #1 getting a 3000 point value and #30 getting a 640 point value seems... a bit of a stretch. But maybe not? Thoughts?

You would not be familiar with the value of the 32nd pick. We are.

Sigh. Way to miss the boat. Or rather, jump on that boat and hijack the shite out of it...

I'll give him credit - pretty good one. I wasn't expecting that from a legit question.

Asshats.

I agree that the top of the round is way over valued. But that's good when looking to trade back I guess.

That's the common pick value chart developed by Jimmy Johnson back in the day. It is represented by the blue line below. The red line is a more realistic valuation to today's standards. The standard chart is still used in negotiating though- as said, especially by the teams wanting to move down.

If you measure frequency and degree of success in ratio to contract cost the 2nd & 3rd Rds are the real sweet spots to me.

Legitimate targets could be pittsburg and the giants. they need pass rushers badly too, and if we can hop back a few spots we could possibly get their 2nd for our first and 4th. then we can maybe flip the pick again for a mid 20's pick and a 2/3 rounder.

wishful thinking though. I wouldn't mind picking up a late first round LT, not have to put so much money into bushrod and maybe grabbing a not as refined OLB/NT with two 2nd rounders as opposed to one project freak OLB and have no 2nd.
