ESPN reports

does this hurt his stock enough to fall to 15? Or does simply passing the physicals at the combine assure him a top spot?

Depends on his pro day

He will probably work out at Georgia's pro day. If he does well at that it won't have much of an affect. Everything depends on how big of a risk the top ten teams in the draft view his neck.

Kiper said yesterday that there's some thought that he might not run a good 40. Could be another factor.

there is no chance he falls past 15, definitely not 16 either.

Would love to get him but I highly doubt he will fall. Lots of players wait until their pro days to workout as it gives them one on one with certain scouts and they can talk to scouts and coaches in a comfortable environment.

Seems like the combine is becoming less and less relevant.

In a few years it will be like the NBA combine where the top guys interview, measure in, and don't do any of the workouts.

is the theory mostly that if you are a known top talent, the combine can only really hurt your stock?

That's exactly the theory. Scouts already know about him and are going to his pro day. Might as well get his measurable tests done where he is comfortable.

Basically.

Some guys have injury concerns. Other guys just wait for their pro day at their school, where they're familiar with their surroundings and usually get favorable results.

For a guy like Joeckel though, there's absolutely no reason for him to be at the combine running 40 yard dashes. He's a top 5 lock.
