Why people assume that a hand-timed is always faster than laser is beyond me. That could be true, but a person could also be late in stopping the timer to make sure they cross the line

Sometimes they're late, and sometimes they're early. The one you hear about is always the lowest one, therefore...early.

True, but I have to look at it in context...

Mathieu was a teenager in college;

Russell was a grown man getting paid millions to do a job.

It is easy to be less sympathetic for Russell because of these factors (for some people).

I don't hate on either.

The majority of people on the Rant would eat their own young, so I'm not surprised at all.

Good luck Tyrann!

He'll need a low 4.4 or better to avoid being a mid-round pick.

Anything under 4.5 is legit.

Rusell was what 4 years older than TM7 when he went into the NFL? So the age thing isn't a big deal imo...

Sure JR was older when he quit caring but it isn't like TM7 is a teenager, I mean he is an adult being 20 years old vs HR being drafted a 22 years old. If JR was smart enough to make the right decisions in college why is it that TM7 gets a pass?

amazes me how so many people think so many people on this site want him to fail. expressing the opinion that his talent and future as a player isn't that of an all-pro player isn't the same as hoping he fails. it's actually basically what most analysts have been saying even before all the off the field stuff. the homers on the board just don't like hearing anything that casts a former lsu player in a bad light. i'm still a big tyrann fan. it would have really bothered me if he had transferred and played anywhere else. i hope he's able to be a great nfl player. but at the same time, i don't believe that to be highly probable, nor do i think he gets drafted very high.

Yeah. Where's a list of posters here who "want him to fail"?

Guy frustrated the hell out of me, but I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.

That to me is the key, he didn't make the selfish decisions while at LSU that hurt LSU. To me what he did in the NFL doesn't even matter because he was no longer wearing a uniform so therefore TM7 doing what he did would be worse.
Preach. That's why I display my Jamarcus Russell jersey in my LSU room proudly. Loved his time at LSU and won't change due to his NFL career.

SLOW? Really?
40 times are so overrated it's ridiculous. His speed is based on agility in his pads. He plays fast with exceptional burst speed upon directional changes. We all know he isn't going to burn down like a sprinter.

As far as JR--people hate on him because of the whole representing Alabama business. If he had never done that I suspect most everyone here would be pulling for him.

The only way Mathieu was ever gonna be a top 1-2 round pick was if he got drafted after the 2011 season or if he played at LSU last year and produced. He never would've been able to dominate like he did at a place like McNeese because he didn't have the surrounding cast. Teams could scheme away from him and minimize his impact. He still would have made plays, just not enough to ever get 1st or 2nd round.

His actual time aside, anyone who thinks a legit 4.4? isn't flying is retarded. Every high school in 'Merica has 10 claiming they run 4.4s. Ends up being 1-2 if that! Geaux Tyrann, I wish him the best!

no more ridiculous than people taking the outliers of small Dbs that have succeeded in the NFL and taking that as the likely probability for Mathieu. People think that because Mathieu was a great college player he will automatically be an all-pro and coveted draft pick come April. I only used Monte Ball as an example because he's a guy in this year's draft who fits that criteria. People act like Mathieu was a sure fire 1st round pick before he got booted. That's just not accurate at all. Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if Tharold Simon was drafted before Mathieu.
