I am going to take the cc coarse and apply for a cc permit.Question I have is how does arrest record play into this. Anybody been granted a permit who was arrested in their youth? I'm talking misdemeanors.

Misdemeanors shouldn't be a problem. You have to list the arrests and dates and get papers on their disposition I think. I listed arrest and didn't have any trouble.

As long as you don't have a felony, I'd think you'd be ok.

The most difficult part is getting the disposition record from the court(state workers aren't in a rush to do anything). Otherwise you won't have an issue.

Mine took an extra week compared to my peers who did not have issues in the past.

He spilled his drink down the back of a Senator's wife in TS and the cops went after him and threw him down the steps. Just went at it after that.

He still has a hard time buying guns now and that was 35 years ago. Took him 1.5yrs to get his CCW

Sounds like a simple misunderstanding to me.

My arrest was back in the early 70's in Rhode Island I don't remember what the charge was or even what county it was in.

This. Especially if it's non-violent.

Just being arrested will not matter. It is the convictions that matter. You can have an arrest for a felony and still get it depending on the disposition. If you were cleared of all charges, then you are good to go. Just go to your local police departmnet, or one in the jurisdiction where you were arrested and get your background check. Then take this paper and go to the DA's office and ask for the dosposition on it. They might charge you, they might not. Usually about $1.00 per page. Some places won't give you the disposition unless you first get the background check done.

so, you can just walk into a police station and they will run a background check on you?....that just seems way too simple when dealing with a governmental agency...

That is all you do. You will pay a fee, but it is that simple. If you are in the military, wether active, reserve, or ng, just get the request form from your unit and you won't get charged.

I got mine at the courthouse. State and city ones were there, but you have to go to a different parish to get your arrest record from there because BR court only had BR city stuff and EBR parish.

You will be fine as long as there are no felony convictions or protective orders issued against you.

I had misdemeanors, and even a bench warrant (that I didn't know about from a 2001 disturbing the peace) when I got mine. They are only looking for felonies and violent crimes. If you got busted with pot back in the day you are good.

But do know any many areas getting busted with pot, and having a gun on your person is an automatic felony.

I know 2 people that had assault charges when they were minors (both are women ) and they had a delay getting there's back.

You should be fine but they may so extra digging if you have some baggage like that.
